You can check the status of the four installed toner cartridges by using the printer control panel, printing a Supplies Status page, or viewing the HP ToolboxFX. Please note that you can extend the lifespan of the installed toner cartridges by turning the EconoMode feature on, but please be aware that print quality will be reduced. You should replace an installed toner cartridge(s) when any of the listed messages and print-quality issues appears.

A [?] appears instead of the consumption level – The HP Color LaserJet 2605 Printer has detected an error with a component of the corresponding toner cartridge. You must make sure that the toner cartridge is installed correctly, and then print a test page. Please note that you can continue printing if print quality is satisfactory. Otherwise, you should replace the toner cartridge.

[10,000x Supply error] is displayed – The HP Color LaserJet 2605 Printer cannot read/write from/to the memory chip of the indicated toner cartridge. You should reinstall the toner cartridge, and then power cycle the laser printer. You should install a new toner cartridge of the corresponding color if the problem is not solved.

Print quality is affected by vertical streaks, bands, faded areas, background toner shading, missing color(s), or/and inaccurate color(s).

[Order Black (K) cartridge], [Order Cyan (C) cartridge], [Order Magenta (M) cartridge], and/or [Order Yellow (Y) cartridge] is displayed – The indicated toner cartridge approaches the end of useful life. You should order a replacement toner cartridge(s).

[Replace Black (K) cartridge], [Replace Cyan (C) cartridge], [Replace Magenta (M) cartridge], and/or [Replace Yellow (Y) cartridge] is displayed – The specified toner cartridge is empty. You must replace the indicated toner cartridge.

The [Attention] LED is on, and one or more [Toner Cartridge] LEDs blink – You have installed a compatible non-OEM toner cartridge. In order to use the non-OEM toner cartridge, you must press the [Select] button.

In the initial step of the replacement procedure, you must open the front door of your HP Color LaserJet 2605 Printer, and then remove the toner cartridge that you want to replace by pulling it straight towards you. After that, you must take the new toner cartridge out of the protective plastic bag, and then redistribute the toner by shaking the new component several times from side to side. Now, you must remove the shipping locks and the shipping tape from the new toner cartridge. Then, you must align the new toner cartridge with the corresponding slot and insert it until it is firmly seated. Once the new toner cartridge is firmly inserted, you must grasp the blue cleaning tool that is located above the Black toner cartridge, and then slide it five times along the cleaning channel. In the next step, you must make sure that the cleaning tool is back to its original location, and then close the front door. Finally, you must wait until the message [Ready] appears on the control panel, and then test your HP Color LaserJet 2605 Printer.
