HP Color LaserJet 2500tn Review
Not too long ago, it was rare to see the word 'Laser' and 'Color' used in the same sentence. Laser printers cost so much money thus making it a luxury item. Nowadays, laser printers come in all shapes and sizes. Now they are affordable to SoHo (Small Office-Home Office) environments worldwide. The HP Color LaserJet 2500tn is a sensible candidate for businesses/consumers on a tight-budget. This printer is an obvious choice for businesses looking for network-ability; this one is an upgrade that retains all the essentials of the 2500 and 2500L series. The HP Color LaserJet 2500tn stands 20.16-inches tall, 18.98-inches wide, 17.76-inches deep, and weighs a modest 64.6 pounds; it will fit in any credenza or office hutch.
It is rare, but always gratifying to see a smallish laser-printer capable of printing in Color and Black & White. HP averages the print rate to 16 pages per minute for Black and 4 pages per minute in Color. This printer dishes out output with 600 x 600 dots per inch resolution, in lieu of ImageREt 2400 technologies. The output goes through multilevel printing progression that can be adjusted to optimize quality of prints. HP cartridges play a substantial factor in picture-quality because of the toner formulation. Various sources will report a monthly duty cycle of 30,000 pages, but this could be an error. It does not make sense that the printer's stronger counterparts have an average monthly volume between 7000-15000 pages per month. The printer has a processor capable of 300 Mega Hertz and a standard memory of 64 Mega bytes (expandable to 256 Mega Bytes). There are two JetDirect print servers compatible with the printer; JetDirect 635n IPv6/IPsec and the JetDirect 620n Fast Ethernet. Either one of the servers can be fitted in the EIO slot located on the rear of the printer. The printer is compatible with operating systems as far back as Windows 95 with Pentium 90 Mega Hertz and 16 Mega Bytes of RAM. Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows 2000 will need hardware of minimum Pentium 166 Mega Hertz and 32 Mega Bytes of RAM. Windows XP systems will need a minimum 233 Mega Hertz processor with 64 Mega Bytes of RAM. It will work with Macintosh systems OS 8.6 or higher, provided that the system facilitates 150 Mega Bytes of hard-disk space, USB port, disk drive, or CD-ROM. Paper handling features Tray 1, Tray 2, and Tray 3 for the LaserJet 2500tn. Tray 1 holds up to 125 sheets of different print mediums. Tray 2 is a 250-sheet bin that holds standard-sized media. Tray 2 will need be utilized in order to utilize Tray 3. Tray 3 holds will hold a generous 500-sheets. All three trays for the 2500tn will hold a total of 875-sheets. The printers connection-interface facilitates a USB port and BaseTX 10/100 Ethernet port.
The max input capacity contradicts the output capacity tray that holds only 125 prints. It is a pity that this printer can only print duplex manually. No one seriously wants to stand around a printer and flip pages for 2-sided prints. The prices are raised significantly because of the print server and additional paper trays. While the network-ability of the printer is solid, it lacks the sufficient speeds to make it ideal in large business environments. It can be quite noisy during operations; 67 Decibels. The LaserJet 2500tn utilizes an Ethernet BaseTX 10/100 port, but the print rate of the printer is not suitable for such high-speeds of payload transmission within a network. |
