HP Color LaserJet 2550L Printer Review

Overview:

The HP Color LaserJet 2550L is well designed and won’t take up a lot of space. Output quality is good and it is fast. It is reasonably priced, but lacks some features. For example there is no built-in networking, thus you'll need to go through Windows or buy an external print server to connect it with your coworkers.

Pros:

The HP Color LaserJet 2550L is fast and can print 12.8 pages per minute while offering high quality output.
Text printing with the HP Color LaserJet 2550L is impressive. Small fonts are easy to read. Text was crisp and clear and there were no signs of smudging. Grayscale reproduction is very good. You will see smooth skin tones and good detail in dark areas. There are some signs of banding, but textured clothing in images showed very little moiré.
The 2550L is easy to install. The manually explains everything with clear, two-color line drawings. There is a user’s manual included on the software CD-ROM as both Windows Help and PDF files. With the HP Color LaserJet 2550L you don’t get an LCD screen, but still operating it is straightforward and easy.

Cons:

The HP Color LaserJet 2550L only comes with a fold-out tray that holds 125 sheets. You will have to pay to boost the capacity by adding a 250-sheet drawer. Plus an additional 500-sheet tray can be added. On top of that the output bin on top of the printer holds only 125 sheets, while the straight paper path exiting at the rear spits out paper and thicker media one sheet at a time and doesn’t come with an output tray. Another major drawback is that this printer doesn’t come with a duplexer.

Another shortcoming of this printer from HP is that the black toner cartridges yield 5,000 pages, but cost over $80. Overall the cost of consumables for this printer is not cheap.
