You should replace the installed ribbon cartridge when the message [CHECK CARTRIDGE <> RESET OR REPLACE] appears on the LCD screen.

How to Install a Ribbon Cartridge in the Brother intelliFAX 1270 Fax Machine

Initially, you must open the top cover of your Brother intelliFAX 1270 Fax Machine by pressing the [OPEN] button, and then pull the exhausted ribbon cartridge out of the machine. After that, you must unpack the new ribbon cartridge, and then remove the plastic stopper from the right end of the new component. Now, you must tighten the ribbon of the new cartridge by turning the black spool in a clockwise direction, and then align the tabs of the new component with the four holders inside the fax machine. Finally, you must push the new ribbon cartridge down until it clicks into place, and then close the top cover of your Brother intelliFAX 1270 Fax Machine.
