HP LaserJet 4200 Review
The HP LaserJet 4200 series was designed with versatility in mind and includes a powerful set of monochrome laser printers with 3 individual 100 pin DIMM expansion slots and a series of hardware options including a duplexor. With exceptionally fast print speeds and excellent paper handling abilities, the HP LaserJet 4200 series is perfect for high volume document processing.
With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 150,000 printed pages, the HP LaserJet 4200 is more than capable of producing massive amounts of black and white output. With its top print speed of 35 pages per minute, even large projects will be executed with minimal wait time. This is made possible due to a very fast built in 300 MHz processor that is great for not only keeping top print speeds high, but also for reducing slowdown when dealing with heavy printing demands.
Also helpful in keeping slowdown at a minimum is a hefty built in memory supply. With 64 MBs of RAM standard, all text document processing with occur without incident. If more complex printing demands are required, upgrades in memory could significantly help in keeping print speeds high. Up to 416 MBs total of RAM can be incorporated in the device via its three DIMM memory slots. The unit’s first page out time, though not the absolute best available, is still admirable at less than nine seconds. Its paper handling abilities are adequate and consist of 600 sheets of standard paper storage that can be expanded all the way up to 2,600 sheets via additional paper trays and drawers. The inclusion of additional drawers also allows users to take advantage of the device’s automatic switching feature that allows users the freedom to switch back and forth between two paper types such as letter and legal without unloading paper stores.
With true 1200 x 1200 dot per inch resolution, HP LaserJet 4200 users will not have to rely on quality enhancement functions to achieve truly professional looking text and graphics. When the optional automatic duplexor is included as well, users can also create excellent double sided prints with no additional user interaction, which can help cut down on paper usage by as much as half.
The main drawback to a truly high powered laser printer such as this is the price. 35 pages per minute does not come cheap, and the HP LaserJet 4200 could cost buyers somewhere around four figures. HP does assist to some degree in protecting users’ investments though with their comprehensive one year warranty and parts replacement plan.
