Lexmark E238 Toner Cartridge - Prints 6000 Pages
  OVER 50

Price:  $81.89
Product Description
Lexmark E238 TONER - 6,000 Pages

This toner cartridge prints 6000 pages with average 5% coverage (Nearly all Printer manufacturers base their ink/toner cartridge yields on 5% page coverage).

This product comes with a 6 month Warranty against any defects (including free replacement). We stand behind our products 100%, as these are not manufactured by Lexmark.

Why toner? Why not call it ink? Regular ink dries quickly, which is why cartridges for inkjet printers do not last long. Laser Printers use toner, which is ink in the form of powder. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for 2+ years prior to usage.

Lexmark E238 Review

It would be hard to find a printer of any kind that is more basic than the Lexmark E238. As a discontinued model, it would also be very difficult to find a less expensive laser printer. This entirely capable desktop unit may be past its prime, but its print speed is actually quite respectable and its consumables costs reasonable, making the unit actually a very good bargain if one can be tracked down for purchase.

With 25 pages per minute of print speed, the Lexmark E238 is not exactly pushing the limits of performance, but this speed is still completely acceptable for a desktop unit. 30 pages per minute seems to be more of the current standard in laser printing of any kind, even color printing, which means that, if you look on the bright side, the Lexmark E238 is not very far behind.

Lexmark’s specification listing for the Lexmark E238’s monthly duty cycle is a little bizarre. The printer’s 10,000 page maximum duty volume is straightforward enough, and represents a figure that would probably be hard to achieve for an individual using the device as a desktop, personal printer. Lexmark provides another specification, however, of a 10,000 – 19,999 maximum monthly duty cycle for 1 to 3 users. This reflects possibly the amount that an internal counter in the printer can tolerate, but really should be disregarded as a measurement.

Surprisingly, the minimalistic Lexmark E238 is not completely without expansion options. This device, as expected, comes complete with a very conservative amount of RAM. 16 MBs are installed in the product in box, but an additional DIMM slot allows users to upgrade their RAM with an additional chip up to 64 MBs in size, boosting the printer’s maximum internal memory up to 80 MBs.

Believe it or not the Lexmark E238 also is equipped with both types of non-network connectivity ports. Users can link up their host PCs via high speed USB 2.0 or Parallel cables and rely on the printers OCR A, OCR B, PCL 5E, and PCL 6 built in emulation to speed most print jobs along nicely.

With dimensions of 15.6 x 13.9 x 9.8 inches (W x D x H) and a weight of about 22 pounds, the Lexmark E238 is not too obtrusive on a desktop and is easy enough to move around. The device is so inexpensive and light that it would actually make a great travel printer.

It’s hard to fault a printer that can be purchased brand new for the cost of another printer’s toner cartridge for being mediocre on some levels, but this inexpensive printer will just plain not live up to the demands of certain users. This light duty device prints at a monochrome print resolution of only 600 x 600 dots per inch. While this is to be expected from a bargain printer, it also means that text and imagery will not look as crisp or smooth as it would from a 1200 x 1200 dot per inch printer. By all means, consider making a go at this incredibly low priced hardware, but be aware of what you’re getting yourself into.
