How to Replace the Toner Cartridge in a Samsung ML-1630 Laser Printer

When the toner LED light blinks rapidly you should replace the toner cartridge. First turn the machine off and wait for it to cool. Next open the top cover. Then take the handles on the toner cartridge and remove the cartridge from the machine. Remove the new toner cartridge from the package. Then hold the sides of the toner cartridge and shake it to spread out the toner. Next put the toner cartridge on a flat surface and remove the paper on it. Finally insert the cartridge and close the top cover until it is completely latched.

Overview:

Easily one of the coolest looking laser printers on the market, the Samsung ML-1630 also provides a respectable degree of performance and versatility. This ultra sleek, almost unrecognizable desktop accessory brings print quality that provides superb imagery to match the hardware’s outstanding aesthetics.

Pros:

The obvious outstanding feature of the Samsung ML-1630 Laser Printer is its look. With a body design that looks like something out of 2001 A Space Odyssey, the printer is in a class of its own as far as aesthetic design. The model was an Innovations Design and Engineering honoree, and is about as easy to transport as a laptop computer.

The printer’s height falls under five inches, making it extremely easy to fit underneath a desk as well as on top of one. It is also very light at only 14 pounds, and carries a footprint of about 13 by 15 inches. Memory included is also very small, but sufficient, at 8 MBs. Unfortunately, the memory on this compact unit is not expandable but, then again, the unit isn’t really designed for performance in the first place.

Print quality for the Samsung ML-1630 Laser Printer, however, is quite outstanding for such a small device. It tops out at a solid 1200 x 600 dots per inch, making it perfectly capable of printing crisp imagery and line drawings along with clear black and white text.

Another interesting fact about the Samsung ML-1630 Laser Printer is that it was once available exclusively through the apple store, both online and B&M. This exclusive arrangement ended in 2008, and the model itself was discontinued not far after. The stylish device is made to look great next to an attractive PC or Mac setup alike.

Cons:

Really focusing on visual appeal over raw performance, the Samsung ML-1630 Laser Printer falls short in areas that most device’s in this price range do much better at. The unit’s maximum print speeds are borderline inacceptable, with an advertized 17 page per minute that has been tested at speeds as low at 13 or 14 pages per minute, the unit certainly does not live up to its price tag in this area.

As far as value for the money spent, the Samsung ML-1630 Laser Printer is a model that is legitimately only worth considering if looks are an absolute priority, or at least if the need for an extremely thin printer is. The unit is extremely bare bones compared to its competitors and a multifunctional device with similar performance can be found for the same overhead cost, making the unit a definite underperformer for its cost.
