This toner cartridge prints 2500 pages with average 5% coverage (Nearly all Printer manufacturers base their ink/toner cartridge yields on 5% page coverage).

When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer?

A new toner cartridge yields approx. 2,500 pages at 5% print coverage. The actual number of prints will vary depending on the percentage of print coverage of your documents. You should replace the installed toner cartridge if:

� The [Error] LED blinks slowly

� [Toner Low] is displayed in the Status Monitor

� [Toner Empty] is displayed in the Status Monitor

� The OkiData B4100 Laser Printer prints blank pages – You must make sure that the drum unit and the toner cartridge are installed correctly, and then test the laser printer. Please replace the installed toner cartridge if the problem persists.

� Vertical white streaking or faint areas appear on the printout

� Faded printouts

� Smeared printouts

� Blurred printouts

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer

Initially, you must switch the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer off, and then wait at least 10 minutes to allow the installed fuser assembly unit to cool. After that, you must unlock the top cover by pressing its release button, and then open the cover completely. Now, you must pull the colored knob of the exhausted toner cartridge towards you, and then pull the exhausted component out of the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must unpack the new toner cartridge, and then shake it several times in all directions. After that, you must remove the protective tape from the new toner cartridge, and then align the cartridge with the slot, so that the blue knob is on the right. Once the new toner cartridge is correctly aligned, you must insert its left end into the left holder of the slot, and then lower the right end of the new component into place. � Repetitive image defects occur at intervals of 1.6 inches – The surface of the photoconductive drum of the installed drum unit is damaged. You should install a new drum unit.

� Vertical white streaks appear; Smeared printouts; – You should try to improve print quality by replacing the toner cartridge. Please install a new drum unit if print quality does not improve.

How to Install a Drum Unit in the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer

Important: Due to the initial toner charging of the new drum unit, you should install a new toner cartridge. Please be aware that the green surface of the photoconductive drum is very delicate and light sensitive.

Initially, you must open the top cover of the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer, and then remove the used drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. After that, you must unpack the new drum unit, and then remove the protective paper and the shipping restraints from the new component. Now, you must align the pegs on the sides of the new drum unit with the guides inside the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer, and then slide the new component into place. How to Install a Registration Roller in the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer

To install a new registration roller in your OkiData B4100 Laser Printer, you must remove the following components:

1. Upper cover assembly

2. Operator panel assembly

3. Face up stacker assembly

4. Lower base unit

Removal of the Upper Cover Assembly

Initially, you must switch the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer off, and then unplug its power cord from the power source. After that, you must unplug the interface cable from the main unit, and then press the release button of the stacker cover assembly. Now, you must open the stacker cover assembly, and then remove the drum unit from the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer. In the next step of the removal procedure, you must open the manual feed-guide assembly, and then release its front latches. Finally, you must lift the front side of the upper cover assembly, release the rear latches, and then remove the upper cover assembly from the main unit.

Removal of the Operator Panel Assembly

You must lift the rear side of the operator panel assembly, and then pull the assembly away from the main unit to remove it.

Removal of the Face Up Stacker Assembly

Once the operator panel assembly is removed, you must remove the operator panel cable from the latch section of the face up stacker assembly, and then remove the screws securing the face up stacker assembly to the main frame. Next, you must remove the face up stacker assembly together with the shield plate from the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer.

Lower Base Unit Removal

You must remove the transfer roller assembly, and then unplug the cables and the pulse motors from the GRG-PCB. After that, you must remove the LED head cables, and then unplug the thermistor cable. Now, you must disconnect the heater cable from the CN2 connector, and then open the manual feed-guide assembly. Finally, you must remove the lower base unit from the OkiData B4100 Laser Printer, and then detach the motor assembly.

Replacement of the Registration Roller

You detach the paper guide by releasing its latch, and then remove the one-way clutch gear and the bearing. Next, you must release the latch of the registration gear, and then remove the registration gear. After that, you must remove the left registration bearing, and then push the registration roller to the right. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the used registration roller, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new registration roller by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

Pros:

This unit is an outstanding option for the home or small business user. It offers outstanding print quality. This unit is built for simplicity. The control panel is easy to use, but there is no LCD screen on the control panel.

Okidata B4100 toner cartridges are easy to remove and replace. The standard laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,500 pages. There is also a 3,000 yield toner cartridge available as well. Output quality is good. Text documents are sharp and easily readable at smaller fonts.

This machine is compact and only weighs 22 pounds. As a result you can easily move it when necessary. The OkiData B4100 is an outstanding low cost option for your home.

Cons:

It has a limited paper capacity of 250 sheets. Another drawback is that it lacks a multipurpose tray. As a result you will have to empty the paper tray before loading a new media type.
