When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the OkiData C6050 Color Laser Printer?

The OkiData C6050 Color Laser Printer is based on the CMYK color model, which means that the machine uses four toner cartridges (Cyan (C), Magenta (M), Yellow (Y), and Black (K)) to produce full-color printouts. The lifespan of the installed toner cartridges depends on the amount of toner that your print jobs require. For example, you can extend the useful life of the installed toner cartridges by lowering the print resolution and/or by enabling the Toner Save feature.
The OkiData C6050 Color Laser Printer monitors the condition of all installed consumables and collects usage data. You can check the current level of toner remaining in the installed toner cartridges from the [Usage Menu].
You should replace the installed toner cartridges in the following circumstances:

A new toner cartridge set must be installed when you are replacing the drum unit

The error message [ TONER SENSOR ERROR] is displayed on the second line of the LCD screen – The OkiData C6050 Color Laser Printer does not detect the specified toner cartridge. You must make sure that the indicated toner cartridge is properly seated in the corresponding color-coded slot. Please replace the indicated toner cartridge if the problem persists.

The consumables’ life warning [ORDER ] is displayed – The indicated toner cartridge is nearing the end of its estimated useful life. You should purchase a new set of toner cartridges soon after the initial appearance of the described notification.

The message [REPLACE TONER <> 410: Y TONER EMPTY], [REPLACE TONER <> 411: M TONER EMPTY], [REPLACE TONER <> 412: C TONER EMPTY], and/or [REPLACE TONER <> 413: K TONER EMPTY] is displayed – The indicated toner cartridge has reached the end of its useful life and needs replacing. You must replace the exhausted component.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the OkiData C6050 Color Laser Printer

In the first step of replacement procedure, you must open the top cover of the laser printer, and then locate the slot of the exhausted toner cartridge. Please note that the toner cartridges are installed in the following order (rear side – front side/control panel): Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. Please do not touch the fuser assembly unit. Next, you must unlock the exhausted toner cartridge by pulling its release lever towards the control panel. After that, you must pull the right end of the exhausted toner cartridge out of the slot, and then remove the exhausted component by sliding it to the right. Now, you must remove the replacement toner cartridge from the protective plastic bag, and then shake it several times horizontally in order to ensure equal toner distribution inside. Please do not touch the toner release lever of the new toner cartridge. Once you have finished redistributing the toner, you must remove the protective tape from the underside of the new toner cartridge, and then insert the left end of the new component into the corresponding slot of the drum unit. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must push the right end of the new toner cartridge down as far as it will go, and then push the toner release lever of the new component towards the rear side of the OkiData C6050 Color Laser Printer. After that, you must use the included (into the package of the new toner cartridge) LED lens cleaner to clean the four LED lens, which are located on the inner side of the top cover. Finally, you must close the top cover, and then test your OkiData C6050 Color Laser Printer.

Overview:

The OkiData C6050 is a small workgroup desktop laser printer with a large paper capacity, fast printing speeds, and a number of features that make up for its slightly larger footprint. Users who need fast, inexpensive prints with less regard for image quality will likely be more than pleased by this model.

Pros:

The C6050 measures 17.1" by 22.1" by 13.4" and weighs 57.3 lbs, making it fairly large for a desktop printer but still small enough that it could fit comfortably on a desktop or tabletop alongside other equipment. However, if desired, the printer could easily find a home on a dedicated cabinet or credenza, potentially making it easier to access for a busier work environment.

The printer produces sheets at a maximum speed of 22 pages per minute in color or 26 pages per minute in black and white, consistent with most desktop color laser printers. Its time to first page is 11 seconds in color and 8 seconds for black and white prints, and it produces documents at a maximum resolution of 1200 by 600 dpi, consistent with many other desktop laser printers (higher resolutions are typically available only on professional-grade inkjets).

The C6050 includes a 300 sheet paper tray capable of printing to letter, legal, and universal paper, as well as a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. If needed, this can be expanded by adding a 530 sheet paper tray, bringing the printer's capacity to 930 sheets, almost two reams of paper and likely more than many small offices go through on a daily basis. Supported media includes transparencies, envelopes, mailing label stock, 3" by 5" cards, and 48" banners. The main paper tray supports printing to documents sized between 4.1" by 5.8" and 8.5" by 14", and the second paper tray supports printing to documents sized between 5.8" by 8.3" and 8.5" by 14". The multi-purpose tray supports printing to documents sized between 3" by 5" and 8.5" by 48".

Duplex printing is available as an optional add-on on the C6050n, but included standard on the C6050dn.

The printer includes a Print Supervision system and the OkiLAN Embedded Web Server to ensure easy networking as well as remote printer management to control color toner use and how many jobs individual users create.

The printer includes considerable support for various printer languages, supporting PCL 6, PostScript 3, IBM PPR, and Epson FX via emulation. The C6050 includes 87 PCL fonts and 136 PostScript fonts, OCR-A and B support for bitmap fonts, and support for USPS, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 39, and Code 128 barcodes. Windows Vista, XP, 2000, and 2003 are supported, as are both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X 10.2.

The C6050 interfaces with devices via USB 2.0, IEEE-1284 Parallel, or a built in 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet interface for easy networking under most circumstances. It ships with a generous 256 MB of RAM, which can be expanded to 512 MB by adding another 256 MB memory module.

Cons:

Setting up the printer in newer versions of Mac OS X, such as 10.6 Snow Leopard, is difficult due to a number of compatibility issues. The C6050 does not support printing from 64-bit applications and must be updated using the Oki Filter Updater utility before installing PostScript drivers or the printer will not work properly. Regardless, compatibility issues may make users planning on using this model into the future with 64-bit systems choose another printer over this one.
