Brother MFC-240C Review
As an upgraded version of the popular Brother MFC-230C model, the Brother MFC-240C comes complete with faster print speeds and a built in automatic document feeder not seen in the lower end model. The unit combines print, copy, scan, and fax abilities into a single, very affordable unit that is sure to increase the productivity of any home office.
With print speeds of up to 25 pages per minute in black and white and 20 pages per minute in color, the Brother MFC-240C outperforms many of the small multifunctional units in its price range. Its maximum print resolution is also very impressive and is selectable up to 6000 x 1200 dots per inch, which is enough for perfect, photo quality prints. With a minimum droplet size of only 1.5 picoliters, image accuracy and line clarity will remain clear, while borderless printing allows all standard photo sizes to be printed to without the need for manual trimming. Front loading media card slots allow for immediate access to one’s photos and printable data without ever connecting to a host PC. Pictbridge compatibility also helps users to take advantage of the Brother MFC-240C’s stand alone abilities by interfacing directly with the digital camera itself. Copies can also be made without integrating the printer with a PC or Mac. The unit’s paper input capacity, though limited, is up to par with a consumer level MFC such as this. With a 100 sheet storage capacity, high volume printing could prove to be a tedious task for the Brother MFC-240C, but everyday faxes, copies, and prints should prove to be hassle free. A maximum monthly duty cycle of only 2,500 printed pages is also at the lower end of the spectrum, but it is important to remember how surprisingly cost effective this well equipped machine is. For the price, the unit is hard to beat for overall functionality and ease of use.
Like the Brother MFC-230C before it, the Brother MFC-240C is lacking in the area of faxing abilities. With a limited 14.4 Kbps modem built in, the unit faxes at about one third the speed of higher end units. The 240C does make one key improvement, however, over the 230C; the inclusion of a built in automatic document feeder that is ideal for faxing multiple pages automatically. Unfortunately, the ADF itself is also very limited in that it has a maximum paper capacity of only 10 sheets. Still, it is certainly a welcome addition and worth the bump in price. |
