Overview:

The Lexmark C544dtn is the latest of the printers included in the Lexmark C540 series, besting its two predecessors Lexmark C544n and C544dn with significant improvements in speed and functionality. With efficiency in costs and power consumption in its arsenal, the Lexmark C544dtn looks to be a color printer that would address color printing needs at a relatively high volume that small to medium sized offices may have without compromising budget and performance.

Pros:

The Lexmark C544dtn features a Duo Drawer for its paper handling capability, which is able to handle up to 900 sheets, while its output tray can handle up to 100 sheets. Each tray is able to carry up to 20 lbs of paper, while envelope capacity is at 10 sheets. Duplex printing is also integrated with the Lexmark C544dtn, increasing its efficiency in terms of production speed and paper cost savings. Supported media types include card stock, paper labels, transparencies, while media sizes that are supported by the Lexmark C544dtn include A4, A5, executive, folio, legal, letter and statement among others.

The Lexmark C544dtn is also one compact and work-friendly printers in terms of its size and noise levels, with its dimensions measuring 16.6 x 16.7 x 16.4 inches and noise level at a maximum of 48 decibels, relatively quiet for a printer with its features and printing capability. Users with small work spaces would like what the Lexmark C544dtn brings to the table, as most printers with Lexmark C544dtn's features are heftier and produce more noise which can be bothersome in a compact working area. The Lexmark C544dtn also weighs around 69 lbs. Not exactly the lightest of the printers in its class, but manageable enough to be moved around a compact work space and stable that it won't be easily topple over.

For its printing speed, the Lexmark C544dtn offers up to 25 pages per minute for black text prints, and up to 23 pages for color prints in a minute. Duplex printing has approximately 12 sides per minute. For first page out results, the Lexmark C544dtn has 11 seconds for black text prints and 12 seconds for color prints. These speeds are quite competitive considering there are not a lot color printers that can provide consistent results in terms of speed printing outputs. For its resolution, the Lexmark C544dtn offers 1,200 x 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) for both black and color print outs.

Hardware for the Lexmark C544dtn features a processor with a speed of 500 Mhz with a standard memory of 128 MB capacity. This memory can be upgraded to 640 MB to maximize efficiency in handling complex and customized printing tasks. Expandable memory option is also available. For supported operating system environments, the Lexmark C544dtn features MAC OS X and MAC OS 9.2 for Apple MAC systems, Citric MetaFrame, various Linux distributions such as Debian, SUSE and Ubuntu and Microsoft Windows systems from Windows 2000 up to Windows 7, for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

Cons:

With all its impressive features, the Lexmark C544dtn doesn't have any significant downsides. Some users might find its speed not at par with smaller color printers, such as the Epson Stylus Photo T50. It's resolution can also be suspect, as other printers in its class offer a much higher degree of resolution.
