Canon PIXMA MP160 Review
The Canon PIXMA MP160 is a stylish, entry-level printer of Canon's MFP series. The printer is inexpensive but the Canon PIXMA MP160 copies, scans, and prints. So, it is quite the bargain. It prints quality output, but the printer is missing essential features. The printer is best used in a Home Office. With MFP's dimension of 17.5 inches in width, 15.0 inches in depth, 7.2 inches in height, and 13.9 pounds; the printer is compact enough to fit upon any desk-stand. Canon provides a standard 1-year warranty with toll-free phone support upon the purchase of the printer.
Despite the Canon PIXMA MP160's shortcomings, the printer is quite fast at 22 pages per minute in Black, 17 pages per minute in Color, and 52 seconds for a borderless 4 x 6 photo. There are 320 nozzles used for Black and 3 x 384 nozzles used in Cyan/Magenta/Yellow. A total of 1472 nozzles is used in printing or copying documents. The print resolution is respectable at 600 x 600 dots per inch for Black and 4800 x 1200 dots per inch for Color. Acceptable media sizes are Photo Stickers, Envelopes, 8 x 10 inches, 5 x 7 inches, 4 x 8 inches, Wallet-sized (credit card) 2.13 x 3.39 inches, Credit Card, Legal, and Letter. The copier produces Black-text based documents at a rate of 22 copies per minute and Color-based documents at 17 copies per minute. Multiple copies of 1-9 or 20 pages can be preset on copy jobs. An interpolated resolution of 19,200 x 19,200 dots per inch. The max document-size acceptable on the scanner is 8.5 x 11.7 inches. The PIXMA MP160s network interface is made of a mere 2.0 USB Hi-Speed and Direct Print Port. Direct Print Ports are used to establish a connection between secondary imaging devices to the printer. Secondary imaging devices like DV camcorders, digital cameras, and mobile phones. The MP160 series is compatible with operating systems like Windows 98, Windows 7, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows XP, and MAC OS X versions 10.2.8-10.4.x.
Media card slots and an LCD are nonexistent for the Canon PIXMA MP160. The nonexistent features limits the printer's target-consumers. The printer does not enable the user to view the image before printing. Users have to go through the hassle of utilizing secondary devices to preview images and documents. The PIXMA MP180 contains the features of the MP160 and extra components like LCD and Media Card slots. Consumers are better off buying the PIXMA 180 than the PIXMA MP160. Suffice to say, the printer is not ideal for photo printing. Canon PIXMA MP160s features are quite iffy. Consumers are likely to be displeased with printer's quality, ink consumption, process, and errors. Likely, there is small consumer-base that will benefit from the printer. It is terrible to see the printer's scanner resolution of 600 x 1200 optical dots per inch. All-in-all, the scan feature is subpar to other printers of its type. The bottom-line? This printer can be one of the best for home office or student work. Photos are mediocre, and the printer's operation is quite a breeze. Do not expect the printer to be appropriate for high-volume work or hectic business environments. This is your basic run-of-the-mill printer that will get the essentials done. If you are on a tight-budget but you look for something relatively dependable, then the Canon PIXMA MP160 is for you. |
