Product Manuals
When to Replace the Ink Cartridges in a Lexmark X2580 Printer
Lexmark X2580 will indicate when color or black ink cartridge need to be replaced. When color LED’s are blinking the device is sending an alert message to the user. The meaning of that message is that the color ink cartridge is almost empty and is recommended to be replaced. When color LED is on all the time the user must install new ink cartridge because the machine will decrease the print quality.

When black LED is blinking the device is sending alert messages to the user. This message will mean that the black ink cartridge is near empty and is recommended to be replaced. If the black LED is on all the time the user must replace the ink cartridge. If the user doesn’t replace the cartridge the print quality will decrease.
How to Replace the Ink Cartridges in a Lexmark X2580 Printer
To replace black or color ink cartridges lift up the scanner unit. Press down the cartridge carrier levers. Open the cartridge cover. Remove empty ink and dispose of it regarding local regulations.

Lexmark X2580 Review

Overview:

While many users have gotten frustrated with the Lexmark X2580 printer because they are under the impression that consumables for the product are only available from now extinct Circuit City stores, and have therefore branded the device as overpriced and worthless, ink for the unit is readily available online for reasonable prices, making the device much more practical than some people would have you believe.

Pros:

While it is true that the ink required to operate the Lexmark X2580 multifunctional inkjet printer can only be bought in-store at Circuit City locations, online retailers are more than willing to help you get the Lexmark #2 and #3 inkjet cartridges required to operate the unit. While the page yields for these consumables are admittedly very low, the cost of the actual printer hardware is also extremely low, making the unit a respectable option for the user with extremely low output needs.

The Lexmark X2580’s maximum print resolution of 600 x 1200 dots per inch is not particularly outstanding, but is still enough to provide that extra polish to imagery and text that is just not seen in 600 x 600 dot per inch devices.

As a copy machine, the Lexmark X2580 is capable of handling some very minimalistic requirements. The unit uses a 36 bit color depth instead of the usual 24 which gives it a slight edge in its color accuracy, while its flip top design allows the unit to copy large three dimensional material along with the usual standard paper sizes.

Cons:

Because Circuit City has long since closed all its stores, consumables for the Lexmark X2580 are only available online. While online ink cartridges are almost always cheaper than those bought in store, users will have to use a little forethought and buy extra cartridges to keep on hand when the printer is in use so there is no delay when cartridges actually do run out.

Unlike the Lexmark X4850, the Lexmark X2580 does not come complete with a color view screen, or an LCD readout of any kind for that matter. Without the built in screen, stand alone picture printing by way of PictBridge is not possible, while the device’s lack of memory card slots also prevents it from printing photos in this manner.

The unit’s print speeds top out at only 22 pages per minute in black and white and a very weak 16 pages per minute in color. In the many years that the Lexmark X2580 has been off the market, the standard print speed for color inkjets has risen above 30 pages per minute, making old units such as this much less desirable.

Another thing that the Lexmark X2580 is lacking is a built in automatic document feeder. It is pretty much standard practice these days for three in one multifunctional units to be equipped with a built in ADF on top of the scan glass, but the 2580 is sadly lacking one. It almost goes without saying that the unit also lacks a built in duplexor, meaning that printing to both sides of output material is a tedious process.
