Brother MFC-3360C Review
The Brother MFC-3360C adds a touch of style to the usually bland multifunctional fax machine design. With its sleek flip down lid, it blends in discreetly with any desktop by hiding unsightly buttons and feed slots. This inexpensive model comes with a price tag significantly lower than a hundred dollars, and yet combines fax, copy, scan, and print hardware into a single, full color inkjet device.
Aside from the hip design of the Brother MFC-3360C, it also packs a veritable punch in the realm of versatility when it comes to the under one hundred dollar MFC market. The unit’s print speeds of up to 25 pages per minute in black and white and 20 pages per minute in color, while not top notch, are at least competitive in the current market. The unit’s built in automatic document feeder, though limited in size, is crucial when dealing with multiple pages of input for scanning, copying, or faxing. The fax functions of the machine are more than up to par and include a built in fax page memory that is capable of storing hundreds of pages worth of data in the event of a paper outage, and automatic dialing options for up to 100 programmable locations and 10 single touch locations. There is even an included handset that allows users to make standard phone calls using the machine. The unit’s scan resolution of only 1200 x 600 dots per inch means that photo scanning is not really an option for users of the device, and its interpolated scan maximum of 2400 dots per inch does little to assist with this problem. A color scan depth of only 32 bits also severely hinders the Brother MFC-3360C’s usefulness as a photo scanner, and its paper capacity of only 100 sheets is another big disappointment, even for a bargain fax machine.
There are a few limitations to this bargain MFC including a very limited 16 MBs of on board RAM. The device’s maximum monthly duty cycle is also incredibly disappointing; topping out at only 2,500 printed pages. With these figures, the Brother MFC-3360C is neither suitable for high volume printing or high speed complex image printing, and is best suited for the light duty or home user. The Brother MFC-3360C’s copy speeds, unfortunately, fall behind the unit’s print speeds by quite a large margin. With black and white copies possible at a rate of 18 pages per minute and color copying maxing out at 12 pages per minute, the device once again reveals its limitations as a heavy duty unit. The unit’s fax page memory, though crucial, also carries a limited 200 page maximum. |
