SHARP AL-1642CS TONER CARTRIDGE

Toner cartridges will have to be installed in the Sharp AL-1642CS when the unit has run completely out of toner or when the unit is first purchased, though the drum unit will come pre-installed. The device alerts users of a toner problem with a light displaying six small dots in a triangle pattern signifying toner. When this light turns on, the toner cartridge will soon need changing and when the light begins to blink, there is no usable toner left and a new cartridge will have to be installed before work can continue.

Open the multipurpose bypass tray if it is not already open and you will see an OPEN button on the side of the Sharp AL-1642CS. Press this button to unlock the side panel which will swing open. With the side door open, the front panel can also be opened by pressing in on the sides of the door.

Once the toner compartment has been accessed, the toner cartridge (if there is an old one in place) can be removed by pressing a small lock release button on the end of the cartridge. Pressing the release allows the cartridge to be pulled free of the machine. Be cautious with old cartridges as they could still potentially leak toner and should therefore be stored in a plastic bag for recycling. A convenient way to do this is to use the bag that the new cartridge comes in.

Remove the new cartridge from its packaging and place the old cartridge inside the packaging. New cartridges must be loosened before they can be installed. To accomplish this simply hold the cartridge HORIZONTALLY and shake it back and forth and side to side several times. The protective cover on the cartridge must also be removed before installation.

Slide the new cartridge into place inside the machine and be sure to lock in into position by pressing the release button once more. With the cartridge in place, close the front cover, the side cover, and the bypass tray in that order. The indicator light will go out and the machine will be capable of making copies again.

Misfeeds in the Sharp AL-1642CS will be accompanied by an alert from the machine in the form of the misfeed indicator light blinking or a P being displayed on the LCD screen. Misfeeds can be located by pressing the OPEN button on the side of the machine and opening the side door. Paper will be seen caught in the paper feed area, the fusing area, the transport area, or the lower paper feed area.

If the misfeed is located in the paper feed area, simply pull it slowly out of the machine in its usual direction of travel, then close the side door. If the misfeed is located in the fusing area, the fusing unit must be lowered by PRESSING THE FUSING RELEASE LEVER. With the fusing unit lowered, the paper should be able to be pulled free. Exercise caution if the fusing unit is hot.

If the misfeed is located in the transport area, the fusing unit must also be lowered and the front cover opened. At this point, the roller rotating know must be turned counter-clockwise to advance the paper, allowing it to be safely removed from the machine.
