SHARP AL-2030 TONER CARTRIDGE

The Sharp AL-2030 operates on a two part toner/drum setup. The toner cartridge will not be pre-installed upon purchase of the machine and therefore must be installed manually. When cartridges run out of toner, the device will first light up a toner indicator light as the toner gets low, then blink the light continuously when it is completely out.

The machine must be opened to access the toner cartridge compartment. To accomplish this, first make sure that the bypass tray is open, then press the OPEN button on the side of the machine to open the side door. With the side open, the front cover can be dropped by pressing in on either side of it.

When replacing a used up toner cartridge, the old cartridge will have to be removed. It is locked in place and must be released by pressing the button on the visible end of the cartridge. Pull the cartridge out of the machine and recycle it properly. Do not shake the cartridge or tilt it too much as some toner may still remain in it and spill out. If toner gets on clothing, wash it off immediately with COLD water as hot water will set the stain.

To install a new cartridge, first remove it from its packaging, then shake it thoroughly from side to side while holding it horizontally. Remove the plastic protective cover from the cartridge and slide it into the machine along the rails. The release button must be pressed to snap the cartridge in place.

Begin by closing the front cover, then the side cover, then the bypass tray. The doors must be closed in this order to avoid damage. Once all the covers are closed, the indicator light will go out and the machine will operate properly.

From time to time, the transfer charger in the Sharp AL-2030 will need cleaning. If the charger is dirty, it is possible that copies will become streaky or blotchy. Cleaning the transfer charger must always be done with the unit’s power turned OFF to avoid injury and damage to the machine.

Open the multi-bypass tray and then press the OPEN button on the side of the machine to open the side door. Inside, you will find a small charger cleaning device in a pocket on the left. Take this cleaner and set it on the right end of the transfer charger, then slide it to the left. DO NOT slide the cleaner back to the right but instead lift the cleaner out and repeat the process several times until the charger is clean.

Once cleaning is finished, the cleaning tool can be returned to its holding place and the side door closed. Turn the power switch back on and print a test copy.

When cleaning the transfer charger, it is a good idea to dust the machine and document glass to promote overall cleanliness. Most of the components of the machine, inside and out, can be cleaned with a simple dry cloth. The transfer glass and roller can, if necessary, be cleaning with glass cleaner and a cloth, but never with flammable cleaners. Any time imperfections appear in copies, it is a good idea to clean the machine thoroughly.
