Like the toner alert system, the fax machine will alert drum unit requirements in two stages. The first alert will be a DRUM UNIT WARNING message. When this is displayed, the unit can only print 4,000 more sheets. This is designed to give users enough time to order a new drum unit before it runs out. Once the unit requires replacement for operation, the REPLACE DRUM UNIT notice will appear and the fax machine will no longer print.

To replace the drum unit, follow the same procedure as replacing the toner cartridge by opening the front cover and removing the processing unit by lifting up on its GREEN handle. Separate the two devices by moving the small lever on the toner cartridge. Match the colored parts of the drum unit with those of the toner cartridge and push them together, then install the process unit into the machine, making sure it is fully secured. Close the front cover to the unit.

When a new drum is installed, the drum counter MUST BE RESET. To accomplish this, follow this procedure:

1) Press these buttons in this order: MENU, 5, 2, 0, 4, 1.
2) When the RESET DRUM COUNT ARE YOU SURE message appears, press ENTER.
3) When the COMPLETED message is displayed, press STOP to return to standby mode.
