18 Products for the Brother MFC-490C MultiFunction Center
Brother MFC-490C Review
The Brother MFC-490C multifunctional printer is most commonly found in the form of the Brother MFC-490CW wireless model. With wireless network capabilities built in, an entire household or small office can gain almost instant access to print, scan, copy, and fax abilities thanks to the unit’s versatile hardware. With additional implemented luxury features such as easily accessible memory card slots and a Pictbridge port, the device is also perfect for printing lab quality photos at an affordable rate.
With a huge 3.3 inch widescreen color display screen, this ultra modern all in one unit allows users to not only read menus and preview images, but to edit them as well. Built in wireless and wired network interfaces make the Brother MFC-490C a great option for a small office, while the unit’s impressive print speeds make it perfect for medium volume printing tasks. Speeds of up to 33 pages per minute in black and white and 27 pages per minute in color ensure that even larger projects will execute quickly and smoothly, and a built in automatic document feeder allows users unattended fax, copy, and scan functions. The unit also increases the 10 sheet ADF capacity found on earlier models in the series up to a much more reasonable 15 sheets. Another wise improvement Brother has made over its earlier MFC models is the upgrade to a 33.6 Kbps fax modem from the previous 14.4 K. With a high speed Super G3 modem now present in the MFC, faxing at speeds of as little as 3 and even 2 seconds per page are possible. PC faxing through a host PC is another option that is both convenient and cost effective due to its potential to save paper. High quality photo printing in full color can be done at resolutions of up to 6000 x 1200 dots per inch and with droplet sizes as small as 1.5 picoliters. A free application download for wirelessly printing JPEG images from an Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Android device is available from Brother, and the Brother MFC-490C can even upload data to these devices via iPrint and scan functions. Wired printing can be done through a host PC or Pictbridge ready digital camera, and memory cards can be loaded directly into the device for printing photos without the use of a PC.
With so many high functioning features found in a single unit, it actually is quite hard to find a major drawback in something so affordable. The only warning buyers should heed is that the addition of the wireless network function does come at a significant increase in price over base MFC models, and buyers without the need for such a function should beware. |
