The toner cartridge installed in your Brother MFC-8640D Multifunction Printer is a consumable printer component, and as such its printing resource will be consumed eventually. The complete exhaustion of the installed toner cartridge should be avoided, because if the cartridge runs completely out of toner, then all printing operations will be suspended, and you won't be able to finish your current task or to print new documents. In the first step of the toner cartridge replacement procedure, you must grab the upper side of the front cover and gently pull towards you, in order to gain access to the compartment, where most of the consumable components are installed. After that, you must carefully pull the drum unit out of the printer in direction straight towards you, but be aware that some of the components surrounding the drum unit may be still hot. Once the drum unit is out of the printer, you must remove the exhausted toner cartridge by pulling it out of the drum unit while pressing down the colored lock lever on the right, and then unpack the new toner cartridge. Now, you must prepare the new toner cartridge for installation into the drum unit by shaking it 7-8 times horizontally, and then pull off the protective cover from its contact area. Please note that the contact area of the new toner cartridge and the drum on the top side of the drum unit must not be touched, in order to be avoided future print quality problems. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must insert and then push down the new toner cartridge into the drum unit, but make sure that it clicks securely into place. Once the new toner cartridge is installed, you must look at the top side of the drum unit and locate the blue tab, which is used for the cleaning of the primary corona wire, and then slide the blue tab to the end of the cleaning channel. Now, you must slide the blue tab back to the left end of the channel, and then repeat the previous two steps (slide it to the right channel's end-slide to the left channel's end) 3-4 times, in order the primary corona wire of the drum unit to be optimally cleaned. After that, you must make sure that the blue tab is back to its original position, and then insert the drum unit along with securely attached new toner cartridge into the printer. Finally, you must close the front cover and test your Brother MFC-8640D Multifunction Printer.
