The lifespan of the installed ink cartridges depends upon various subjective factors, such as the average percentage of print coverage, the number of printed pages per task, and the environmental factors (temperature and relative humidity). You can check the status of the installed ink cartridges by pressing [Setup] and navigating to ‘’Ink Levels’’. You should execute the print head cleaning procedure (included below) if print quality has declined. Please execute the print head cleaning procedure only when it is really necessary because the cleaning uses ink.

Cleaning the Print Head

You must make sure that the printer is turned on, and then load letter-size paper into the input tray. After that, you must press the [Setup] button, and then navigate to [Maintenance] – [Head Cleaning]. You must press the [I] button to start the cleaning procedure.

Please note that you will have to replace the ink cartridges if print quality does not improve after cleaning the print head. Please also note that you must replace all empty ink cartridges when the following message ‘’Press the OK button to replace the cartridge’’ appears on the control display.
You should always keep a spare set of ink cartridges for your Epson Stylus NX400 All-in-One Printer in stock, but please remember to store these consumable components in a cool, dark place. Please follow the detailed instructions given below when an installed ink cartridge needs to be replaced.

Important: To avoid damaging the Epson Stylus NX400 All-in-One Printer, you must install new cartridges immediately after removing the old ones. Please do not touch the green chip of the new ink cartridges. Please do not try to refill or disassemble used ink cartridges.

In the initial step of the installation, you must make sure that the printer is turned on, and press the [OK] button. Then, you must open the scanner unit. Next, you must open cartridge cover, and then remove the empty ink cartridge by lifting it up while squeezing its locking tab. After that, you must shake the new ink cartridge 5-6 times up and down, and then remove the protective plastic bag and the yellow tape from the new component. Now, you must insert the new ink cartridge into the corresponding slot of the holder and then push it gently down until it clicks into place. Once the new ink cartridge is firmly inserted, you must close the cartridge cover, and then close the scanner unit. In the concluding step of the installation, you must press the [OK] button, and wait about 3 minutes before using your Epson Stylus NX400 All-in-One Printer.
