Canon PIXMA iP6600D Review

Overview:

The Canon PIXMA iP6600D is a robust, isolated photo printer with advanced paper management.  Its operation is versatile and stand-alone that produces good quality-photos.  It facilitates FINE technology (Full-lithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering).  A step-up from the Canon PIXMA iP6220D and iP610D, this printer has features that appeal to digital camera owners, students, and photographers.

Pros:

The photo printer will eject 4 x 6 borderless photos in 46 seconds, 8.5 x 11 inch photos in 1.8 minutes.  It utilizes 9600 x 2400 dots per inch for both, Color and Black.  The large 3.5 LCD enables the user to view their digital images before printing.  Before the LCD presents the image to the user, it enhances the image and reduces the red-eye effect, automatically.  Users can utilize the LCD to evaluate their pictures, and if need be, enhance the images from the memory cards.  It's really straightforward to use the printer memory slots.  The memory card is inserted, and from the LCD, users select their image.  The smart-printer will rectify red-eye, increase sharpness, and smooth-out light values on the faces in the picture. 

The ChromaLife100 ensure the photos will endure the generations to come.  Its PictBridge is retained.  PictBridge permit users to connect their DV camcorder, digital camera, and mobile phones to the Canon PIXMA iP6600D and print the photos stored on their devices.  Most modern camcorders, mobile phones, and digital cameras have PictBridge enabled on them.  If one does not know whether their device is PictBridge capable, it's easy to verify by looking for the logo or calling the manufacturer.

The good news is that the ink droplet sizes are as small as 1-5 picoliters.  Letter, Credit Card sizes (2.13 x 3.39), wallet-sized, Legal, U.S. #10 Envelopes, 5 x 7 inches, and 4 x 6 inches are known-acceptable media sizes for the printer.  The noise-level of 35 decibels is respectable and operates quietly, behind-the-scenes.  At 16.9 inches in width, 7.3 inches in height, 12.0 inches in depth, and 15.9 pounds; the printer should fit nicely upon any credenza or stand without any issues in mobility.  Give thanks to Canon's standard 1-year limited warranty.  They also offer extended warranties with more perks for a small-price.  The printer is compatible with modern and older versions of Windows-based systems.  Its standard network interface is made up of a Direct Print Port, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, and an optional Bluetooth.

The FINE technology was fostered and compounded from the original workings of conventional ink cartridges.  FINE technology focuses on the method of ink ejection and printhead technology.  The smaller ink droplets are and the more precise its ink-ejection system, the higher the quality of printed images.  Essentially, the smaller the mass and density of an object, the vulnerability of the object is focused to wind-shifts during movement.  The printheads in a printer are constantly moving from left-to-right and right-to-left.  It is easy to envision how the printing process could be disturbed.  So, Canon created the FINE printheads to increase speeds of ink-droplets.  This increase in speed makes the ejection performance slightly more reliable in ink-ejection than conventional ink cartridges.  FINE printheads are heaters and nozzles integrated as a unit on a wafer located on ink tanks/cartridges.

Cons:

The printer is useful for consumers who want a photo machine for their digital cameras, but it is not a wise choice for Small Office Home Office or business use.  This is attributed to the slow operation and run of the mill text print.  Most businesses and Small Office Home Office have a tendency to favor networking, quality text, and superior graphics. 

There is no networking, and even if it were achieved, it still would not be appropriate for businesses due to the speed and quality.  The lack of capabilities in fax, copy, and scan attributes to its incompatibility to business vendors.  Research was conducted on the owners of the PIXMA iP6600D printer, and which, facilitated some negative reviews.  One review stated, "the cassette is useless".  The review made a mention that the cassette scratches photos.  Most reviews are quite medial and has no factor in the efficiency of the printer.
