HP Officejet 6000 Review

Overview:

The HP Officejet 6000 is not the type of printer you would want to purchase on the basis of its aesthetic design. It’s a largely bare bones machine with just a few buttons to push, but highly functional enough to dish out a good printout despite its relatively low price.

Frankly, I got an HP Officejet 6000 because my wife needed an easy-to-handle machine to print the draft of a book she was writing, and it was one of cheapest I saw in the computer shop where I bought it. Well, of course, the brand was also a consideration.

I expected it to be good, just like the other HP printers I owned in the past, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it faster than I thought and with pretty good print quality.

Pros:

Well, a “very good” rating for an inkjet does not put it at par with a laser jet, the printer of choice for big-budget users. For the price of $149, however, the HP Officejet 6000 packs a lot of wallop in terms of Ethernet connectivity, practical design, more than average color quality, and printing economy. A standard USB port completes the bargain.

This model’s draft mode is perfect for draft documents, enabling you to print more pages and in less time. With a black and white document, it can print at a rate of 17.5 pages per minute. It’s slightly less for colored pages using the printer’s draft mode. You can, of course, change the mode from draft to the highest quality setting. Under the high quality mode, print quality is crisper and more professional-looking.

It’s a good idea to keep your printer in draft mode to save on ink and turn it to best quality printing only when needed. Draft printing is a bit faint, but as long as it’s readable then it serves the purpose. You can easily change your mode to best quality when printing for a presentation or final draft of your book. 

Cons:

The best inkjet printer can never be like a laser jet. This is why the HP Officejet 6000 cannot compare to a laser jet printer in terms of quality printing no matter what.

For a single-purpose printer that thrives on simplicity, its packaging appears too complicated. Each ink cartridge, for example, is protected by a twist-off seal and a shrink-wrapped cellophane that are tricky to unseal and unwrap.

When installed, the printer runs through a charging cycle for about 10 minutes. And just when you think you’re done, you will be instructed to turn off the printer before turning it on again to complete. It’s a good thing this is done only once.
