Brother MFC-295CN Review
The Brother MFC-295CN adds a new twist to the already extensive feature set found in the MFC-200 models in the Brother line. With included network capabilities, the unit is fully capable of providing shared print, copy, scan, and fax capabilities with an entire household, or even small office. With full color photo quality printing at your fingertips combined with stand alone copy and fax capabilities, the Brother MFC-295CN stands out as one of the best values in printing for less that a hundred dollars.
Being a fairly recent release from Brother, the MFC-295CN is equipped with the latest in connectivity hardware, meaning that the unit can be printed to wirelessly from both Apple and Android mobile devices as well as it can from a network or host PC. With print speeds up of up to 33 pages per minute in black and white and 27 pages per minute in color, standard print jobs will execute quickly, thus reducing user downtime to a minimum. Stand alone capabilities of the unit include copying and faxing, as well as printing when dealing with data stored on a portable media card. Pictbridge technology is another way users can connect directly to the device without the interference of a PC, and they can preview and select files directly from their digital cameras when doing so. USB sticks are also accepted by the unit. With a convenient flatbed design, the Brother MFC-295CN is capable of copying and scanning not only single sheets of paper, but three dimensional objects as well. Scans can then be printed at resolutions of up to 6000 x1200 dots per inch, which is detailed enough for frameable photographs printed borderlessly.
A common gripe about the lower end Brother inkjet MFCs is that when printing to plain paper, colors often seem darker than usual, however sharp and crisp the images are. The same goes for the Brother MFC-295CN, which sometimes falls short when it comes to color accuracy. Another major problem that has been evident in the MFC-200 series since its inception is the presence of a sub par fax modem. With a speed of only 14.4 Kbps, the Brother MFC-295CN can, at best, transmit faxes at half the speed of other, better equipped devices. The built in automatic document feeder is great for sending multiple pages, but it is also limited in that it can store a maximum of only 15 sheets at once. |
