Canon imagePROGRAF iPF700 Review
When extra large printing is a necessity and only a true 36 inch printer will do, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF700 large format printer is an excellent option. Businesses that require constant, poster sized print capabilities in full color or black and white can rely on Canon’s 5 color dye/pigment ink system and FINE technology print heads found in the Ipf 700 to get the drafting and design project done quickly and accurately.
The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF700 is capable of accepting sheets of 36 inch paper or paper in roll format. Drafters will be pleased to learn that the larger size standard roll is also compatible with the unit. Another excellent feature in the corner of those who are often print line drawings is the unit’s extra matte black ink cartridge that eliminates the need to use composite color when printing black and white lines. Doubling up the matte black cartridges can also be used to create extra dark spots in imagery. The unit’s print head carries 15,360 high density nozzles and is capable of ultra small ink drops as little as 4 picoleters. This allows for the smoothest possible gradation and fine line accuracy. Other features include non firing detection and compensation which is a tool that identifies malfunctioning print nozzles and corrects the problem by using a neighboring nozzle. This feature virtually eliminates tiny print errors that can reduce the overall quality and appearance of a professional operation. When using a roll of paper, users can print borderlessly on all four sides, edge to edge. With borderless printing, the need for manual trimming and cropping is eliminated, which can be a critical time saver, especially when dealing with multiple pages of output. When printing to a sheet of paper, some white borders will result.
The most common problems found in extremely large format printers such as the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF700 are mechanical ones. Luckily, Canon has gone to great lengths to keep its hardware up and running, but paper jams are still far too frequent for a device that’s price tag is in the thousands. It should also be noted that consumable costs for such a unit are also very prohibitive, and the unit, and others like it, should only be considered by businesses that require a truly professional level computer assisted design printer. The only other drawback to the unit is its limited software, but this can be attributed to the fact that, as a professional printer, most users will be using specialty software when dealing with the unit. |
