EPSON STYLUS NX420 BLACK OEM INK CARTRIDGE

The Epson Stylus NX420 sometimes supplies error codes on its screen without further explanation. Here are the codes and what they mean.

I-01 or W-05 – Either the paper supply has run out or the paper has misfed.

W-02 OR W-02 – There is a paper jam. Remove it by hand.

W-04 – The cartridge cover (the one inside the machine) is open and must be closed.

W-10, W-11, W-13, or W-41 – These codes indicate that an ink cartridge has run completely out of ink and must be replaced. Sometimes one of these codes will appear after a cartridge has been replaced. This means that the unit was not installed correctly. Reinsert the cartridge and press START.

W-12 – No ink cartridge or the machine cannot recognize the current cartridge. This can happen if a third party cartridge is installed or a cartridge is installed incorrectly.

I-11 – No memory card.

W-30 or W-31 – The memory card is incorrectly installed or there is a problem with the card itself. Remove and reinsert the card.

I-53 – The index sheet in the printer does not match the photos that are to be printed onto it.

W-01 – or E-10 – One of more of the parts in the printer is coming to the end of their life. Contact a technician for help if these messages appear.

E-01 or E-02 – To correct these codes, turn the printer off, remove any paper jams, then turn the printer back on. If this does not resolve the problem, contact Epson.

The Epson Stylus NX420 is very clear about when it needs one or more of its ink cartridges replaced; diplaying a message that reads W-13 YOU NEED TO REPLACE INK CARTRIDE(S), followed by a color indicator such as BK for black.

Replace ink cartridges with the printer turned on. Record which cartridges require replacement and press the START button. When cartridges are low on ink, the printer can continue to operate, but when even one of the cartridges has run completely out of ink, a replacement must be installed for printing to continue.

If you wish to replace a cartridge before the printer demands it, press the SETUP button to select the INK CARTRIDGE REPLACEMENT option.

Open the scanner of the printer, followed by the cartridge cover that locks the ink cartridges in place. The cartridges have a single release tab on their rear that must be squeezed in order to unhook the cartridge from its slot. Dispose of the cartridge through a recycling program.

Shake any new cartridges that are to be installed several times before opening their packaging. After removing the cartridge from its wrapper, you must remove the yellow sealing tape from the bottom of the cartridge. Remove no other labels or seals from the cartridge or it may leak.

Insert each new cartridge into its proper, clearly labeled color slot and press downward onto it until it clicks in place. Close the cartridge cover on top of it and then the scanner. Press the OK button on the printer to charge the ink cartridges which will take a couple of minutes.
