HP OfficeJet 4500 Review

Overview:

If you want your home office or small business to be clean and compact, without too many equipment needing too much space and wirings, then you might want to consider the HP OfficeJet 4500.

The HP OfficeJet 4500 is a multifunction business machine providing three basic office functions – printing, scanning, and faxing – that can be shared over a network. It can also serve as a standalone copier and fax machine.

It’s an inexpensive and minimalist alternative to having three different pieces of office equipment at home or in the office that you can share with everyone else through a network. And it only costs less than $100.

Pros:

There are two types of HP OfficeJet 4500 in the market, one of which is wired and the other is wireless. Aside from above-mentioned basic functions, this model is also capable of sending scanned files directly to you email address as attachment. With a $20 to $30 difference, you won’t need too many cables and movements to set up a wireless connection for your printer.

If you’re not like the few printing users who demand too extremely high print quality, then you may consider the HP OfficeJet 4500’s print resolution of 600 dots per inch (dpi) fairly good enough for printing business correspondence and certain flyers, with a reasonable amount of graphics. Graphics are at par, if not better, than most ink jets and are suitable for corporate use. With most inkjets only in the 300 dpi range, the HP OfficeJet 4500 is certainly a cut above inkjets, so to speak. 

Cons:

If it’s the basic functions of a printer, scanner, and fax you want, then you can’t go wrong with the HP OfficeJet 4500, as long as you have an average demand for print quality. But if you expect to print a substantial number of colored photographs using your printer, then this model may not be the right printer for you. The print output is not really that bad, but it’s not something you may want to hang in your favorite corner of the room.

Another issue is its tendency to show banding, or lines appearing across your printout. This doesn’t come about when your ink is still fresh and full, but it’s still too soon when it happens when ink level is just midway. Anyway, this problem occurs when printing solid graphics or solid/reverse background. Despite certain limitations, the HP OfficeJet 4500 is a respectable choice for an inkjet printer considering its price, functions, and usability.
