Xerox Phaser 8560MFPX Multifunction Printer Review

Overview:

Though the 8560MFP multifunctional unit comes in a variety of model variations, the Xerox Phaser 8560MFPX Multifunction Printer version is the premiere model in the line. It includes four document trays as well as a standard duplexing automatic document feeder and additional memory.

Pros:

With the inclusion of two additional 525 sheet capacity paper trays along with the Xerox Phaser 8560MFPX Multifunction Printer line’s standard 525 sheet tray and 100 sheet multipurpose tray, paper refills will be few and far between. Not only that, but multiple paper types can be loaded at once and swapped between without unloading the normal supply, making frequent switches between letter and legal sizes, or a variety of other paper types, highly efficient.

The machine’s solid ink technology makes for a very low cost per page when dealing with color output. In fact, if the initial overhead cost of the device is not factored in, Xerox devices that use this technology may have the cheapest cost per page of any high quality color printers. That being said, the Xerox Phaser 8560MFPX Multifunction Printer’s initial price tag is nothing short of staggering with a suggested retail value of over $3,000.

While the other units in the 8560 line come with a 512 MB standard memory, the MFP/X version is equipped with a full 1 GB (the maximum for the unit). Another additional feature in the premium model is the inclusion of scanning software which, oddly, does not come with other units.

As a fax machine, the device is entirely up to par; capable of faxing at top speeds thanks the a built in 33.6 Kbps Super G 3 modem. With the abundance of built in memory, the unit can fax to up to 3,200 locations on speed dial and can be programmed for up to 100 group speed dials.

Print speeds of 30 pages per minute for black and white and up to 30 pages per minute in color as well are to be expected from the Xerox Phaser 8560MFPX Multifunction Printer which, thanks to the unique color print technology, exceeds the color print speeds of most fax machines and laser multifunctionals. With a first page out time of only 6 seconds, the device is also very good at producing low volume prints incredibly quickly, and also at high print resolution with FinePoint 2400 dpi technology. Unfortunately, copy resolution tops out at only 600 x 600 dots per inch, making photo quality color copies impossible without first scanning the input material to a host PC at high quality.

Cons:

Interestingly the Xerox Phaser 8560MFPX Multifunction Printer, with its immense paper storage capacity, is fairly limited when it comes to recommended monthly print volume. Xerox advises users to produce only 8,000 pages of output per month, though the device’s maximum monthly duty cycle is much higher at 85,000 pages.
