When do I Replace a Fuser Maintenance Kit in the HP Color LaserJet 4500d Printer?
The fuser maintenance kit includes the following consumable components: Fuser unit, four Paper rollers, and two Air filters. The built-in monitoring system of your HP Color LaserJet 4500d Printer is constantly monitoring the status of these consumable components. The system will display one of the listed warning messages, when it has detected a fuser maintenance kit related abnormality.
• ‘’FUSER LIFE LOW <> REPLACE KIT’’ – This is an advance notification, which indicates that the components of the installed fuser maintenance kit are near the end of their useful life. You should install a new fuser maintenance kit soon after the initial appearance of the warning message on the control panel display, in order to be avoided paper transfer/feed and print quality issues.
• ‘’FUSER LIFE OUT <> REPLACE KIT’’ – The installed fuser maintenance kit is at the end of its useful life. You must install a new fuser maintenance kit immediately after the appearance of this warning message on the control panel display.
• ‘’50.1 FUSER ERROR’’ – The installed fuser unit cannot reach the normal work/fusing temperature. A new fuser maintenance kit must be installed.
• ‘’50.2 FUSER ERROR’’ – A hardware error has been detected during the fuser warm-up/initialization procedure. You must install a new fuser maintenance kit.
• ‘’50.3 FUSER ERROR’’ – The installed fuser unit is overheating. You must install a new fuser maintenance kit.

• ‘’50.6 FUSER ERROR’’ – The built-in monitoring system has detected a faulty fuser heater. You must replace the fuser maintenance kit.
• ‘’50.7 FUSER ERROR’’ – The built-in monitoring system has detected a hardware problem with the motor of the installed fuser unit. You must install a new fuser maintenance kit.
Please note that you can check the status of the installed fuser assembly unit (the most important component of the fuser maintenance kit) from the printer control panel by navigating to [Information Menu] – [Remaining Life]. Alternatively, you can print a configuration page. You should replace the installed fuser maintenance unit, if the remaining fuser life is less than 15%. The complete replacement procedure is included below.
How to Install a Fuser Maintenance Kit in the HP Color LaserJet 4500d Printer
Warning: The operating temperature of the fuser assembly unit is 374degreesF/190degreesC. Therefore, you should turn your HP Color LaserJet 4500d Printer off, and wait at least 30 minutes to allow the installed fuser assembly unit to cool down, before proceeding with the installation of a new fuser maintenance kit.
The replacement procedure for each of the components of the new fuser maintenance kit is included separately below. Please follow the execution order strictly.
Installation of the new Fuser Assembly Unit
Initially, you must open the upper rear door of your HP Color LaserJet 4500d Printer. Then, you must detach the two support straps from the rear door by squeezing their latches. After that, you must rotate the two blue levers of the used fuser assembly unit about 90 degrees upwards. Now, you must remove the used fuser assembly from the laser printer by grasping its handle and pulling towards you, and then unpack the new component. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must slide the new fuser assembly unit firmly into the printer, and then rotate the two blue levers down to ‘’locked’’ position. Proceed with the installation of the new Air filters.
Installation of the new Air Filters
You must remove the two used air filters, which are located above the installed fuser assembly unit. Then, you must use the included hand wipe to clean the fan areas. In the next step, you must unpack the new air filters, and then insert them into the laser printer. After that, you must reattach the support straps to the upper rear door of your HP Color LaserJet 4500d Printer. Now, you must close the upper rear door, and then proceed with the installation of the new paper rollers.
Installation of the new Paper Rollers
You must remove the lower paper tray (Tray 2) from the main unit. Then, you must locate the used paper roller in the top of the tray cavity. After that, you must remove the used paper roller by sliding it to the right while squeezing its tabs, and then unpack the new paper roller. Now, you must install the new paper roller by sliding it onto the spindle in the tray cavity until it clicks into place. In the next step of the installation, you must open the little cover inside the paper tray by squeezing its release latch, and then remove the used roller by sliding it off the spindle while squeezing its blue tabs. At this point, you must install the new paper roller onto the spindle, but make sure that it clicks into place, and then close the cover. Once you have installed the new paper rollers, you must insert the paper tray back into the laser printer, and then turn your HP Color LaserJet 4500d Printer on. After that, you must wait until ‘’READY’’ is displayed on the control panel LCD, and then navigate to the [RESETS] menu by pressing the [Menu] button. Finally, you must navigate to ‘’NEW FUSER KIT, SELECT IF DONE’’, and then press [Select] to reset the maintenance counter.
