Brother MFC-440CN Review
When it comes to multifunctionality, Brother MFCs are hard to beat. The Brother MFC-440C, like many of its cousins in the line of all in one units, incorporates almost every conceivable function available for a piece of inkjet hardware at the time. With memory slots, a fax modem, and lab quality photo printing capabilities, the Brother MFC-440C has everything except a telephone and answering machine, though those can be purchased separately.
The Brother MFC-440C series is only widely available in a single model variation, the Brother MFC-440CN, which includes built in Ethernet capabilities. A color multifunctional unit such as this, when network abilities are included, then becomes an ideal solution for adding an extraordinary amount of features including fax, print, copy, and scan capabilities to an entire small office or home. The Brother MFC-440CN model also allows for network PC faxing. With PC faxing, users can send and receive fax data via a modem without ever dealing with a hard copy. This process saves both time and paper, yet allows for an added element of convenience when fax transmission is a necessity. With truly photo lab quality printing capabilities, users of the Brother MFC-440C can produce stunning, full color imagery with simplicity and ease. Thanks to a super high 6000 x 1200 dot per inch print resolution, the device can replicate the quality seen produced by professional photo printing services. Borderless printing is also made simple when using standard photo paper sizes such as 4 x 6 in. While printing high quality photos will take considerably longer than document printing, sometimes longer than one minute for a single picture, the unit’s stunning results will speak for themselves.
As the Brother MFC-440C is a discontinued model, it is expected that the unit has fallen behind the times to a degree in the areas of raw speed and performance. At 25 pages per minute for black and white printing and 20 pages per minute for color prints, the unit is far from obsolete, but certainly not cutting edge, making it a better choice for the bargain hunter than the high speed small business. Copy speeds are also questionable as far as if they are suitable for the current marketplace. With 18 copies per minute in black and white and 16 copies per minute in full color, users should consider a higher powered machine if large volumes of copies are a neccecity. |
