When do I Replace an Ink Cartridge in the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer?
The four ink cartridges installed in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer are consumables, which must be replaced after a certain number of new prints. The maximal number of prints possible with one ink cartridge set cannot be precisely specified, because the lifespan of each installed ink cartridge depends upon several subjective factors, such as the complexity of the printed documents (average percentage of page coverage), the type of the used media/paper, the preferred print quality settings, etc… For that reason, your HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer is equipped with a highly sophisticated built-in system for ink cartridges monitoring. You can check the status of all installed ink cartridges and the estimated ink levels from the control panel (press and hold the [Cancel] button for three seconds), the embedded web server (navigate to [Information] – [Ink Supplies]), HP Toolbox (navigate to [Estimated Ink Levels] – [Cartridge Details]), or from the [Information and Support] panel of the ‘’HP Printer Utility’’ (available only for systems equipped with ‘’Mac OS X’’). You should replace the installed ink cartridges, if:

• Your HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 prints half a page and ejects the paper – The most common cause of this issue is insufficient ink levels. You should replace all empty/nearly empty ink cartridges.

• The following warning message ‘’Replace Cartridge(s) Soon’’ is displayed on the control panel LCD – The built-in system has detected that one or more ink cartridges are near the end of their useful life. You should install new ink cartridges of the indicated colors soon after the initial appearance of the warning message on the control panel display, in order to be avoided print quality issues and a non-operational mode.

• ‘’Cartridge Problem – The following cartridge appears to be missing or damaged’’ is displayed – You should try to resolve the issue by reinstalling the indicated ink cartridges. The problematic ink cartridges must be replaced, if the issue persists.

• ‘’Cartridge Problem – The following cartridge must be replaced’’ – The built-in monitoring system has detected a critical hardware error with one or more installed ink cartridges. You must replace the indicated ink cartridges.

• ‘’Incompatible Cartridge(s)’’ – The indicated ink cartridges are not intended for use in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer. You must replace all incompatible ink cartridges.

• One or more ink cartridge LEDs are on, and the [Power] and [Resume] LEDs are flashing – The indicated ink cartridges have expired. Please note that you can continue printing with the installed expired cartridges, however, the print quality cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, you should replace the expired ink cartridges.

• The [Power] LED is on, and one or more ink cartridge LEDs are flashing – You must make sure that all ink cartridges are correctly installed into the inkjet printer. The indicated ink cartridges must be replaced, if the issue persists.

• The [Power] LED and one or more ink cartridge LEDs are blinking – The built-in system has detected that one or several of the installed ink cartridges are incompatible. You must replace the indicated ink cartridges.

• The [Power] LED and one/several ink cartridge LEDs are on – The indicated ink cartridges are near the end of their useful life. You should install new ink cartridges of the indicated colors soon.

• The [Power] LED, [Resume] LED, and one or more ink cartridge LEDs are flashing – This light pattern indicates that one or more of the installed ink cartridge are non-OEM products. You should press the [Resume] button to continue printing. No further actions are required.

You should consider keeping a replacement ink cartridge set for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer in stock, in order to be avoided possible printing delays, and resp. interruptions of your work. You can find the complete replacement procedure below.
How to Install an Ink Cartridge in the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer
In order to replace an ink cartridge in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer, you must open the door of the ink cartridge compartment, and then locate the ink cartridge that you want to replace by checking the labels. After that, you must take the used ink cartridge out of the compartment by carefully pulling it towards you. Now, you must unpack the new ink cartridge of the corresponding color, and then align the new consumable component with its color-coded slot. Once you have correctly aligned the new ink cartridge, you must insert it firmly into the slot, and then close the door of the ink cartridge compartment. Finally, you must wait until the automatic cartridge initializing procedure is completed, and then test your HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Printer.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Review

Overview:

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 is an inkjet printer that offers energy saving qualities in an efficiently performing office companion, quite suitable for small home and office users that prefer printers that not only can save time in document production but also more importantly in power consumption. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 also features nifty additions that would make it one of the more preferred inkjet printers in the market.

Pros:

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 uses Thermal Inkjet for its print technology, with its print technology resolution featuring HP Officejet Inks, HP Advanced paper with ColorLok Technology and Scalable Printing Technology for excellent print resolutions. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 provides up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch resolution for black prints and an impressive 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution for color prints. Print speeds are up to 15 pages per minute for monochrome prints with laser quality speed, while for color prints offer up to 11 ppm. These are normal speeds, however, as the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 can provide maximum print speeds up to 35 ppm for black prints and 34 ppm for color ones. Ink type for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 is pigment-based; with borderless printing capabilities that is quite a nice addition to its varied features. Borderless printing capability is up to 8.5 x 11 in, 210 x 297 mm.

Standard print languages for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 include HP PCL 3 GUI and HP PCL 3 Enhanced. It is also a network capable printer, with a built-in Ethernet and an optional wireless capability, which can be enabled upon purchase of a separate hardware accessory. Other connectivity feature for the HP PCL 3 GUI, HP PCL 3 Enhanced includes a standard USB 2.0.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 features a control panel with a 4-front panel control buttons (Cancel, Power, Resume, Network) and 9 LEDs (4 for ink cartridge, 2 for printhead, 1 for network, 1 for resume, 1 for power) for easy command controls and efficient notifications in document production. It supports different media types, such as various paper types, envelopes, cards and transparencies. Media size support include letter, legal, statement and executive types, with varying sizes of 3 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 5 x 8,  4 x 10, 4 x 11, 4 x 12 and 8 x 10 inches. Weight support for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 is from 16 to 28 pounds for the first tray, 16 to 66 pounds for special media tray, which can also be up to 110 pounds for index cards. Recommended weight however is around 20 to 24 pounds to not aggravate the machine and prolong its efficiency and performance. Paper handling for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 uses a 250-sheet capacity input tray, 150-sheet output tray with an optional 250-sheet input tray. It also includes an automatic duplex printing capability for two-side printing.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 is powered by a 384 MHz processor with a standard memory of 32MB. Operating system support includes Windows and MAC OSX environments, such as Windows XP and Vista and Mac OS X v 10.4.11, Mac OS X v 10.5.

As with its power saving feature, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 only consumes a maximum of 48 watts with a 3-watt powersave option, making the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 one of the most energy-efficient printers available today. It also boasts cost-saving features, offering up to 50% less the cost of printing with laser printers while providing low cost ink cartridges.

Cons:

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000, while possessing quite a number of excellent features, does have a few letdowns. While resolution that is offered by this printer is quite high compared to other inkjet printers, color print results especially of images and graphics can be murky as its ink does not dry quickly. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 is also a bit noisy, registering a maximum of 64 decibels when working on plain mono draft mode. Memory is also not upgradable, making the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 less efficient when working with high volume complex prints.
