BROTHER DCP-9045CN DRUM

There are several warning/error messages used by the built-in monitoring system of your Brother DCP-9045CN/DCP-9045CDN Multifunction Printer for an indication of an exhausted drum unit or a detected drum unit related abnormality. All of these warning/error messages are listed and described below.

''Drum Error'' – This message will be displayed, when the corona wires of the installed drum unit need to be cleaned. However, if the ''Drum Error'' message is still appearing on the control LCD after a successful cleaning of the corona wires, then the installed drum unit must be replaced with a new one.

''No Drum Unit'' – This message will be displayed, when the drum unit is not correctly installed. You must reinstall the drum unit, and if the ''No Drum Unit'' message is still appearing on the control LCD, then you will have to purchase and install a new drum unit in your DCP-9045CN/DCP-9045CDN.

''Change Parts'' <> Drum'' – This message indicates that the installed drum unit is at the end of its useful life. You must install a new drum unit soon after the initial appearance of the ''Change Parts'' <> Drum'' message. Otherwise, the print quality will be gradually decreasing, and a variety of print quality issues will inevitably appear very soon.

Initially, you must turn off the power switch of your Brother DCP-9045CN/DCP-9045CDN Multifunction Printer, and then open the front cover by pushing its lock release button. Please be aware that some printer components will be still very hot, if you have recently used your printer. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must unlock the exhausted drum unit from the slot by gently lifting its front side up, and then pull the exhausted component towards you until it stops. Now, you must pull the gray lock release lever up to unlocked position (the gray lock lever is located above the right side of the installed drum unit), and then use both green handles to remove the exhausted drum unit from the printer. Please note that you must avoid touching the contact areas of the toner cartridges, the electrodes on the inner printer' sides, and also the sensitive surface of the 4 photoconductive drums, which are located on the new drum unit. After that, you must remove all of the installed toner cartridges from the exhausted drum unit by grabbing each cartridge's handle and pulling upwards. Then, you must unpack the new drum unit and remove its colored protective cover. In the next step, you must insert all toner cartridges into the appropriate/corresponding slots on the new drum unit, and then fold down the green toner cartridges' handles. Please note that the toner cartridges must be installed in the following order (from the front side of the new drum unit towards the rear): Black (K), Yellow (Y), Magenta (M), and Cyan (C). Now, you must make sure that the gray lock release lever is still in ''upper''/''unlocked'' position, and then insert the new drum unit into the slot until it stops. After that, you must push the gray lock lever down to ''locked'' position, and then insert the new drum unit into the printer until it stops. Once the new drum unit is completely inserted, you must gently push its front side down to lock it into place, and then close the front cover of your Brother DCP-9045CN/DCP-9045CDN Multifunction Printer. Finally, you must turn on the power switch of the printer, and then reset the drum counter by executing the procedure included below.

Drum Counter Reset

1. Navigate to [66. Reset Menu] by pressing [Menu] – [6] – [6].
2. Select [Drum] by pressing [^] several times.
3. Press [OK].
4. Confirm the installation of a new drum unit by pressing [1].
5. Finalize the procedure by pressing [Stop/Exit].
