When do I Replace a Fuser Maintenance Kit in the HP Color LaserJet 4550 Printer?
The fuser maintenance kit includes the following consumable components:
• Fuser assembly unit – Uses heat to fuse the toner onto the media
• Four paper rollers – Used for an optimal transfer of the paper
• Two air filters – The air filters are protecting the fan areas from dust, in order to be maintained an optimal performance of the system fans
• A hand wipe – Used for cleaning of the slots of the air filters
You can check the remaining life of the components of the installed fuser maintenance kit by printing a supplies status page. A new fuser maintenance kit must be installed, if:
• One of the listed messages appears on the control panel:
o ‘’50.1 FUSER ERROR’’ – The installed fuser assembly cannot reach an operational temperature.
o ‘’50.2 FUSER ERROR’’ – A fuser hardware error has been detected during the automatic initialization procedure.
o ‘’50.3 FUSER ERROR’’ – The heat sensor of the installed fuser assembly is faulty.
o ‘’50.4 FUSER ERROR’’ – Faulty fuser assembly.
o ‘’50.5 FUSER ERROR’’ – The operational voltage of the installed fuser assembly does not match the system voltage.
o ‘’50.6 FUSER ERROR’’ – The fuser heater is faulty.
o ‘’50.7 FUSER ERROR’’ – The monitoring system has detected a fuser motor malfunction.
o ‘’FUSER LIFE LOW <> ORDER KIT’’ – The components of the installed fuser maintenance kit are near the end of their useful life. A new fuser maintenance kit must be installed soon after the initial appearance of the warning message, in order to be avoided print quality issues and critical hardware errors.
o ‘’FUSER LIFE OUT <> REPLACE KIT’’ – The installed fuser assembly is at the end of its useful life. You must install a new fuser unit, in order to be guaranteed an optimal print quality and system durability.
• One of the listed print quality issues is constantly reappearing:
o Black lines
o Toner Smear
o Irregular, raised streaks
o Non-adhering toner
o Repetitive defects
How to Install a Fuser Maintenance Kit in the HP Color LaserJet 4550 Printer
The replacement procedure for each component of the fuser maintenance kit is included separately below. Please turn the printer off, unplug its power cord, and wait at least 30 minutes before proceeding with the installation of the new fuser maintenance kit.
Installation of the new Fuser Assembly Unit
In the initial step of the installation, you must open the upper rear door of your HP Color LaserJet 4550 Printer, and then release the two door straps. After that, you must rotate the two blue latches upward 90 degrees to unlock the used fuser assembly unit from the slot. Now, you must remove the used fuser assembly unit from the main unit by carefully pulling it out of the rear compartment, and then unpack the new component. Next, you must slide the new fuser assembly unit firmly into the laser printer, and then secure the new component into place by pushing both blue latches down.
Installation of the new Air Filters
You must remove the two used air filters from their slots in the rear compartment. Then, you must clean the fan areas with the included hand wipe. After that, you must unpack the new air filters, and then insert them into the corresponding slots. Now, you must reconnect the support straps to the upper rear door of the laser printer, and then close the upper rear door.
Installation of the new Paper Rollers
Initially, you must pull Tray 2 out of the main unit, and then locate the paper roller inside the tray cavity. After that, you must remove the used paper roller by sliding it towards the right side of the cavity while squeezing its tabs. Now, you must slide the new paper roller onto the spindle inside the tray cavity until the new component clicks into place, and then open the cover next to the paper roller inside Tray 2. Next, you must remove the used paper roller from Tray 2 by squeezing its tabs and sliding it off the spindle, and then unpack the new paper roller. At this point, you must slide the new paper roller onto the spindle inside Tray 2 until the new component clicks into place, and then close the cover, which is located next to the installed new paper roller. In the next step, you must insert Tray 2 back into the main unit, and repeat the current replacement procedure if your laser printer is equipped with Tray 3.
