HP LaserJet P3010 Series Review
The HP LaserJet Enterprise P3010 is a relatively small and quite fast printer that will fluorish in workgroup environments able to put it through its paces.
The P3010 measures 17.6" by 16.2" by 12.4" when collapsed and 17.6" by 28.7" by 12.4" with all of its compartments and drawers opened. It also weighs 35 lbs, making it less heavy than the many 90+ lb all in one units but heavier than many lightweight consumer inkjets and laser units. It will fit most comfortably on a piece of dedicated furniture, such as a cabinet or credenza.
The P3010 produces documents at a maximum speed of 42 pages per minute, putting it well beyond the industry standard speed of 20 pages per minute and only slightly behind larger units' fast speeds of 50-60 pages per minute. It can produce a first page out in 7.5 seconds.
The P3010 has a maximum resolution of 1200 by 1200 dpi, making it consistent with most monochrome laser printers, though some models offer 2400 dpi resolutions.
The printer ships with 128 MB of RAM, which can be expanded to 640 MB if needed (which it may be if your environment regularly processes large, detail-rich documents such as PDFs). A secure EIO hard disk is also available to improve print speeds, though installing a hard drive adds more moving parts and another potential failure point to the printer.
The P3010 series ships with a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 500-sheet input tray, putting its paper capacity at over a ream of paper and likely more than satisfactory for most environments. For those that need more, up to 2 more 500-sheet input trays can be added, bringing the printer's capacity up to 1600 sheets. It has a 250 sheet output bin and a 100 sheet rear output bin.
The P3010 series supports printing to letter, legal, executive, 8.5" by 13", and envelope paper in its standard tray. Its multipurpose tray supports custom document sizes between 3" by 5" and 8.5" by 14", and its optional tray supports printing to documents sized between 4.1" by 5.8" and 8.5" by 14". Supported paper types include bond, color, letterhead, plain, preprinted, prepunched, recycled, and rough, as well as envelopes, labels, cardstock, transparencies, and user-defined documents.
Duplex printing is available on the P3015x and P3015dn model standard, and can be done manually on the P3015n model.
The printer features a USB 2.0 port and a gigabit ethernet port, as well as a front-panel USB 2.0 port for easy connectivity and an internal accessory port. HP Jetdirect wireless and wired print servers, as well as EIO Parallel Port adapters, are available if needed.
The printer supports Windows from 2000 onward, Mac OS X 10.3.9 or newer, several flavors of Linux, and Novell NetWare. It includes 103 internal PCL font sets, as well as 93 internal PostScript font sets, as well as support for Greek, Hebrew, Cyrillic, and Arabic fonts. PCL 5e, PCL 6, PostScript Level 3 emulation and direct PDF printing are all built into the printer.
The P3015 also supports a huge number of network protocols, such as IPv4 and IPv6, Apple's AppleTalk and Bonjour protocols, SNMP v1, v2, and v3, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, TFTP, LPD, WS Discovery, IPSec, Telnet, Wins, NetWare, and iPrint. It also supports encryption via SNMPv3, SSL, 802.1X authentication, firewalling, and Kerberos authentication. The printer also features a 10-number keypad allowing for individual user PINs to create confidential print jobs if in an environment that requires it.
Like most printers, this model does not ship with a USB cable.
