Lexmark C510 Review
The Lexmark C510 Laser Printer is a color device, not produced by Lexmark anymore, but featuring a high speed processor, quality color printing, fast printing speed and supporting lots of media sizes and types. With a decent monthly duty cycle for a printer designed for home use or small companies, the Lexmark C510 Printer is an affordable device worth having.
The printer works at fast speeds, delivering 30 black & white Letter A Size pages per minute and 8 color Letter A Size pages per minute. There are exactly the same speeds for the standard A4 black & white and color pages. Though the speed for the color pages is not impressive, the one for black & white documents is good enough, considering this device is designed, as said earlier, for home use or small companies.
The Lexmark C510 Printer works at a maximum resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch for both monochrome and color documents. Most of today's printers work at a maximum resolution of 1200 x 1200 dots per inch, so two times better than the Lexmark, but this is not so important as long as you don't print big font size text or very detailed pictures. The Image Enhancement Technology from Lexmark, the 2400 IQ, is featured in this model.
The printer can connect through the standard USB 2.0 and through the IEEE 1284-Bidirectional Parallel port.
The printer features the following languages: PCL 6, PDF 1.2, PDF 1.3 and PostScript 3 and includes 156 PostScript 3 fonts and 86 PCL 6 fonts.
The printer is powered up by a 500 MHz processor, one of the best on the market when this model was released some years ago. It features a 64 MB RAM, which can be expanded to 320 MB through the available DIMM slot.
The printer supports the following media types: labels, envelopes, plain paper, glossy paper and transparencies. The maximum custom media size is 8.5 by 14 inches. The standard supported media sizes are the following: A4, A5, Folio, Legal, JIS B5, Executive and Letter A size. The printer supports five types of envelopes: Us No 9, Us No 10, International C5, B5 and DL.
The printer's input capacity is 2500 sheets, expandable to 780 sheets through some optional trays. For a big company printer this wouldn't even be enough for one day, but this is a good value for personal printers.
The monthly duty cycle is set at 35.000 pages and the producer advises the users not to get past this value because it will decrease the printer's life. For the printer to always work at the optimal parameters you will need to print at least 1000 pages each month.
The printer supports the following operating systems: Windows NT 4.0+, Novell NetWare 3+, SunSoft Solaris 7+, HP UX 10.20+, Red Hat Linux 7.2 and others.
The printer is Energy Star Qualified.
The Lexmark C510 Printer does not feature a built-in duplexer for automatic two sided printing. This is a bad thing for any kind of company because most of them are aiming cutting down on consumables, time and money, and without the duplexer you can't really do that.
There is no support for MAC, so this is another bad thing in our book.
