Why toner? Why not call it ink? Regular ink dries quickly, which is why cartridges for inkjet printers do not last long. Laser Printers use toner, which is ink in the form of powder. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for 2+ years prior to usage.

When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Sharp FO-4970 Laser Fax Machine?

You should install a new toner cartridge in your Sharp FO-4970 Laser Fax Machine when any of the listed indications appears.

The [Toner Cartridge] indicator on the control panel flashes – The installed toner cartridge will have to be replaced after approx. 100 new prints/copies. Please make sure that you have a replacement toner cartridge in stock.

The [Toner Cartridge] indicator is steadily lit, and [REPLACE TONER] or [FAX RCVD IN MEMORY] is displayed – The installed toner cartridge needs replacement. All print/copy operations will be disabled until a new toner cartridge is installed.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the Sharp FO-4970 Laser Fax Machine

You must press the green release lever, and then open the print compartment cover. Please avoid touching the fusing unit. After that, you must pull the used toner cartridge out of the print compartment, and then unpack the new toner cartridge. Next, you must redistribute the toner by shaking the new cartridge several times from side to side, and then align the four pins of the new toner cartridge with the grooves on the sides of the print compartment. Once the four pins are aligned, you must slide the cartridge into the slot until it locks into place, and then close the print compartment cover. Finally, you must reset the toner counter by pressing [LIFE] – [2] – [START].
