Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues

Step A) How to Automatically Clean the Drum

Print quality can be affected by the drum facilitating foreign material like glue from labels, dirt, and dust. Follow the instructions below to solve your printing quality issues.

Note: Do not utilize more than one sheet of paper at the same time for the "Drum Cleaning." Any other paper other than Letter or A4 will not work for the "Drum Cleaning" process.

Prepare a Letter or A4 document. Ensure that the device is in the "Ready" mode. Open up the back cover. Unfasten the manual-feed cover.

Note: Do not close the manual-feed cover or the back cover during "Drum Cleaning."

Press the "Menu" and "Clear" buttons to bring up the "Drum Cleaning" message on the LCD.

Slide the manual-feed guides, with both hands, to the width of the paper that is being utilized.

Put in your Letter or A4 paper, top-edge first, in the manual-feed slot (the edge of the paper needs to touch the feed roller). When the device pulls on the paper, let the paper go. The device will begin the "Drum Cleaning" procedure.

Note: The "Drum Cleaning" process is noisy, because the device rotates the OPC drum backwards. It is not a malfunction.

When the device finishes the "Drum Cleaning," it will return to its default mode, "Ready."

Repeat the steps above at least two more times while utilizing a new sheet of Letter or A4 paper. Discard papers after using for the "Drum Cleaning" process.

Step B) Alternative Steps If Step A Doesn't Work - Manually Cleaning the Drum

If Step A does not rectify the print-quality issues, follow the steps as follows.

Open the front-cover and leave the device on and unused for at least 10 minutes.

Note: If the device has been used recently, the internal components may be hot.

Gently take out the toner and drum assembly.

Note: It is recommended that the assembly is placed upon a sheet of cloth or paper that is placed on a clean, flat surface.

To disassemble the toner from the drum, press the green lock lever down and remove the toner.

Note: Avoid touching the electrodes, because static electricity can damage the internal components.

It helps to place the print sample with print-quality issues in front of the drum unit to locate the position of where the poor print originates.

Gently turn and examine the drum unit gear while looking at the OPC (the component that looks like a roller) drum. If the mark is found, wipe the exterior of the OPC with a dry cotton swab until the glue, dust, or dirt is removed.

Attach the toner cartridge back onto the drum unit (it will click, and the green lever will lift automatically). Plug in the toner and drum assembly back into the device (close up the front cover).
