A 2400 image quality capability produces professional-quality scans and copies.

Pros:

This fast, network-ready printer, can print at speeds of up to 31 pages per minute for black and white, which makes text document printing and copying considerably faster than most office machines, with a resolution of 600x600 dots per inch.

The Dell 3115cn features an automatic document feeder that can accommodate up to 50 pages so you don't have to manually feed each one. This makes multiple-page copying and scanning jobs effortless and easy.

The auto-duplexing feature can be configured to allow for printing on both sides of a page, reducing the size of printed booklets and materials and providing a more environmentally conscious and cost effective solution.

The full color, one-pass flatbed scanner can scan documents and pictures with speed and professional quality. Scanned items can be printed or directly saved to a PC connected through a network.

Bundled software contains features which include powerful tools for archiving and scanning office documents.

The Dell 3115cn MFP can be configured as a stand-alone fax machine, enabling you to send faxes without the use of a PC. Faxes can also be sent directly from your email. These features allow you to set the job up and walk away, so you can spend your valuable time on other tasks.

The second generation of the ColorTrack color control tool is designed to monitor printer and material usage by allowing a network administrator to create up to 50 individual user accounts. Limits can be set for color or black and white printing and permissions can be set for individuals or workgroups. All usage and user information can be tracked remotely through a web configuration tool that is bundled with the software.

This MFP is extremely flexible and can be upgraded in many ways. A wireless printer adapter can be installed to accommodate laptop computers with Wi-Fi capabilities. An extra 550 sheet paper drawer can also be added to increase the maximum capacity to 950 sheets of paper to handle high volume jobs. Onboard printer memory can be increased from 128 MB to 1152 MB to handle larger print queues and large volume print and scan jobs that contain more graphical content, such as brochures, catalogs and other marketing materials.

Cons:

Initial setup is complicated and the installation manual is unclear on a lot of things. It is not a printer that just anyone can set up. It requires a reasonable amount of technical knowledge and a basic understanding of networking and TCP/IP.

The LCD interface is extremely hard to read and commands have to be entered in text format, making the Dell 3115cn less than user friendly.

The auto-duplexing feature does not come standard and needs to be purchased as an upgrade, causing the overall equipment cost to be slightly deceiving for an office that wishes to be up and running with everything they need out of the box.

The design is clunky and the automatic document feeder can become overwhelmed by too many sheets of paper at once, causing potential paper jams and reduced print and scan quality. This can potentially lead to as much as 10% paper waste during high volume runs when the unit is running hot and paper jams are more likely and frequent.

Even though the auto-duplexing feature is advertised as a means to save time and paper by printing on both sides of a page, it is difficult and often impossible to scan both sides of a document in one pass using the automatic sheet feeder.
