AR-157E TONER CARTRIDGE

The Sharp AR-157E has an indicator light that features six dots in a triangle pattern that represents toner cartridge replacement needs. When the indicator light is solidly lit, this means that toner replacement will be needed soon. When the light starts to blink, the cartridge MUST be replaced before any more copying can be done.

Open the multi purpose bypass tray of the Sharp AR-157E and then press the release button on the side cover of the copy machine to open it. Next, press gently on both sides of the front cover and open it as well. Once everything has been opened, the toner cartridge release lever can be pressed and the toner cartridge slowly removed from the machine.

It is best not to tip the old cartridge and to store it in a plastic bag to be sent off for recycling, this way leftover toner cannot spill out and stain clothes.

A new cartridge can now be removed from its packaging and must be shaken several times back and forth while holding the cartridge level. After shaking loose the toner inside, the toner seal can be removed by its pull tab. Slide the cartridge into the machine as the old one was while holding the lock lever and make sure it secures itself in place.

AFTER the cartridge is secured in the machine, pull the tab at the end of the unit out to release the shutter and discard it. Close the front cover by lifting it, then the side cover. At this point, the low toner indicator light should go out and the multipurpose tray can be closed if necessary.

It is especially important to keep the scan glass and cover of the Sharp AR-157E clean due to the fact that when these elements are dirty, it severely affects copy performance. The transfer charger is another area of the copy machine that must be maintained regularly for maximum copy performance.

Turn the power off before cleaning AND unplug the power cord. This is to prevent electrical static shock and damage to the machine.

The outside of the machine can simply be wiped with a clean, dry cloth. This method sometimes works for the document glass as well, though sometimes glass cleaner will need to be applied. When cleaning the document glass, it is important to remember to also clean the inside of the cover and the roller on the document feeder. If any of these elements are dirty, it will be reflected in outgoing copies.

To clean the unit’s transfer charger, open the multipurpose bypass tray and then open the side cover by pressing its release button. Inside the machine, a small transfer charger cleaning utensil can be found in a storage pocket. This item is what must be used to clean the transfer wire.

To clean the wire, begin on the RIGHT end of the charger and insert the cleaner. Slide it to the LEFT end. DO NOT slide it back to the right, but instead lift it out and repeat the process five times. When finished, replace the cleaning utensil in its holder and close the side cover. The power to the machine can now be safely restored and a test copy printed.
