Konica BizHub 200 Review

Overview:

With its attractive grey and white color scheme and color LCD display, the Konica BizHub 200 is sure to not only handle print, copy, scan, and fax needs that a small office might have, but look good doing it as well. This versatile machine is lacking in the area of raw print speed, but is so fully stocked it would still be a welcome addition to most small businesses.

Pros:

With its 60,000 page per minute duty cycle, the Konica BizHub 200 is capable of taking on a considerable about of print and copy volume. The unit is also usable as a scanner and a quite impressive fax machine. It can send and receive faxes at the stunning quality of 400 x 400 dots per inch which, by fax standards, is as good as it gets. The only downside to fax quality this high is that few other machines are capable of matching it and fax machine quality is always limited by the weakest link.

The speed of the fax modem auto adjusts to accommodate “weaker links” all the way down to the incredibly sluggish speed of 2.4 Kbps and up to the current standard of 33.6 Kbps. 300 speed dials, 30 program dials, 30 group dials, and a maximum of 210 multiple station transmissions can be stored/executed by the Konica BizHub 200’s fax element.

The Konica BizHub 200 only prints at a top resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch with a grey scale of 256. This means that that extra clear sharpness provided by 1200 dpi printing will not be present, and that the unit is best suited for simple document copying and printing.

With 576 MBs of on board memory that is expandable up to 1,088 MBs, the Konica BizHub 200 is more than well equipped to handle a variety of different complex print material such as mixed text and imagery found on a PDF file. In fact, the standard memory is so sufficient on this unit, upgrading the memory is more or less unnecessary for most applications.

Cons:

The Konica BizHub 200 can only dish out 20 pages per minute of output; easily placing it on the lower end of the multifunctional laser device category. What makes it even worse is that the device is not particularly more affordable than its 30 page per minute competitors from brands such as Brother and Canon. If top print speeds are a priority, then the BizHub’s low performance level is and instant game ender.

Other than the poor print speed, the Konica BizHub 200’s weakest area is its scan element. With an optical scan resolution of only 600 x 600 dots per inch, the unit is too weak to scan in a truly photo quality image to a computer. Other scan settings include 100, 200, 300, and 400 dpi. The scanner is, however, impressively fast and is capable of 20 scans per minute in color and 40 scans per minute in black and white when using 300 x 300 dot per inch image quality.
