BROTHER DCP-8045D DRUM

The drum unit installed in your Brother DCP-8045D Multifunction Printer is also a consumable component, but it has one of the most important print functions – to transfer the toner from the toner cartridge as an image/text on the chosen type of paper. Therefore, you must make sure that the installed drum unit is in top work condition by regularly cleaning its primary corona wire, and by checking the remaining drum's print resource.

Primary Corona Wire Cleaning

1. Remove the drum unit from the printer (Refer to the new drum unit installation procedure, which you can find further below).
2. Look at the top side of the drum unit and locate the blue corona wire cleaning tab.
3. Slide the blue tab to the opposite end of the cleaning channel several times.
4. Make sure that the blue cleaning tab is back to its original position.
5. Reinstall the drum unit into the printer (Refer to ''How to Install a Drum Unit in the Brother DCP-8045D Multifunction Printer'', which you can find further below).

In order to manually check the remaining drum's print resource in %, you have to perform the short procedure included below.

Checking the remaining print resource of the installed Drum Unit

1. Locate the control panel of your DCP-8045D.
2. Press [Menu], and then press [1].
3. Press [7] – The remaining drum's printing resource in % will be displayed on the control LCD for 5 seconds.

Please note that you will be notified by the precise built-in system of your multifunction laser printer, when the installed drum unit reaches the end of its useful life. The notification will be accomplished by the displaying of the following warning message ''Change Drum Soon'' on the control LCD of your DCP-8045D. The recommended action in this situation is a prompt installation of a new drum unit, in order to be avoided a variety of print quality issues.

Important: Please be aware that some printer components will be extremely hot, if you are replacing the exhausted drum unit just after you have used your multifunctional device. Therefore, it will be safer, if you wait for at least 10-15 minutes after the completion of the last print task. Please also be aware that you should avoid touching the contact area of the toner cartridge and the sensitive surface of the photoconductive drum, which is located on the top side of the new drum unit, in order to be avoided future print quality problems.

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must open the front cover by pressing its lock release button, and then take the exhausted drum unit out of the printer by pulling it slowly towards you. Please note that you should avoid touching the electrodes on the inner printer sides, in order to be avoided damages caused by static electricity. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must detach the toner cartridge (only if it's still useable) from the exhausted drum unit by pulling the cartridge towards you while pressing the colored lock release lever on the right side of the exhausted component, and then unpack the new drum unit. Immediately after that, you must insert the toner cartridge into the new drum unit until you hear a click, and the make sure that the blue lock release lever on the right side of the new drum unit has been elevated to ''upper''/''locked'' position (reinstall the toner cartridge, if the lever is still lowered). Now, you must insert the assembled components (new drum unit+still useable toner cartridge) into the printer, and then press the [Clear/Back] button. Then, you must confirm the new drum unit installation by pressing [1] once the following message ''Replace Drum <1. Yes> <2. No>'' appears on the control LCD. Finally, you must wait for the following message ''Accepted'' to appear on the control LCD, and close the front cover of your Brother DCP-8045D Multifunction Printer.
