HL-5050 LASER SCANNER UNIT

You should replace the installed laser scanner unit if any of the listed indications appears.

All Light Emitting Diodes on the control panel are lit – The Brother HL-5050 Laser Printer has detected a hardware malfunction. You should try to clear the detected error by turning the laser printer off and then back on. If the LEDs are still lit, you must press the [Go] and the [Job Cancel] buttons to view the secondary control panel indication. Please replace the installed laser scanner unit if the yellow [Drum] and the red [Status] LEDs remain on.

Black vertical streaks in a gray background appear – You should try to improve print quality by cleaning the scanner window. Please replace the installed laser scanner unit if print quality remains unsatisfactory.

Image distortion – You must make sure that the installed laser scanner unit is positioned correctly and that the corresponding mounting screws are tightened. Please replace the installed laser scanner unit if the problem persists.

Insufficient print density – You should try to solve the problem by replacing the installed toner cartridge. Please also make sure that the scanner window is clean. You must replace the installed laser scanner unit if the print quality does not improve.

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must unplug the AC cord from the Brother HL-5050 Laser Printer, and then open the front cover. Next, you must pull the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly out of the laser printer, and then cover it with a sheet of dark paper. After that, you must close the front cover, open the paper tray, and then remove the paper from the tray. Now, you must remove the access cover by sliding it towards the rear side of the machine, and then remove the rear cover MP assembly by releasing the two hooks. Once the rear cover MP assembly is removed, you must detach the left and right rear covers by removing the four screws, and then remove the seven screws from the right and left side covers. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the two screws from the rear side of the top cover assembly, and then remove the top cover assembly from the laser printer. After that, you must remove the filter and the M3 screw from the air duct, and then remove the air duct from the Brother HL-5050 Laser Printer. Next, you must disconnect the LD harness and the polygon motor harness from the exhausted laser scanner unit, and then detach the elastic protector. Now, you must remove the six screws that secure the exhausted laser scanner unit to the main frame, and then remove the exhausted component. Finally, you must unpack the new laser scanner unit, and then install it by executing the current procedure in reverse order.
