BROTHER MFC-8440 DRUM

In order to maintain an optimal printing quality, your Brother MFC-8440/MFC-8440D Multifunction Printer must be equipped with a drum unit in good working condition. The drum unit installed in your printer has a certain, limited printing resource, which will be depleted eventually. Therefore, this consumable component is constantly monitored by the precise built-in system of your printer. Once the built-in system detects an abnormality in the status of the installed drum unit, it will display an appropriate warning message in the control LCD. If the detected abnormality is indicating an exhausted drum unit, the monitoring system will display the following warning message ''Change Drum Soon'' on the MFC-8440/MFC-8440D's LCD. The recommended action in this situation is a drum unit replacement. Otherwise, the print quality will be gradually decreasing, and a variety of print quality problems will inevitably appear very soon. Herein, you should replace the drum unit installed in your printer soon after the initial appearance of the ''Change Drum Soon'' warning message.

You must start the replacement procedure by opening the front printer cover, and then you must take the exhausted drum unit out of the MFC-8440/MFC-8440D by grabbing its front side and pulling straight towards you. After that, you must detach the still useable toner cartridge from the exhausted drum unit by pushing down the colored lock release lever, which is located on the right side of the drum unit, and pulling the toner cartridge slowly towards you. Now, you must unpack the new drum unit, but be careful not to touch the sensitive surface of the photoconductive drum, which is located on the top side of the drum unit. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must install the toner cartridge into the new drum unit, but make sure that it clicks securely into place. Please note that the colored lock release lever will be automatically raised, but only if the toner cartridge is installed correctly into the new drum unit. Once the toner cartridge is securely attached, you must insert the new drum unit into the printer, and then press the [Clear/Back] button. Finally, you must confirm the new drum unit installation by pressing the [1] button, and when the following message ''Accepted'' appears on the LCD, you must close the front cover of your Brother MFC-8440/MFC-8440D Multifunction Printer.
