DRUM for DELL 1710 LASER PRINTER

The built-in system of your Dell Black & White 1710 is constantly monitoring the remaining print resource of the installed drum unit. The system will warn/notify you with an appropriate warning or error signal, once it detects a drum unit related abnormality. All of these warning and error signals are listed and described below.

 The [Continue] LED is lit and the [Drum Unit] LED is blinking fast – This is an advance notification, which indicates that the installed drum unit is near the end of its useful life. You should install a new drum unit soon after the initial appearance of this warning signal.

 The [Drum Unit] LED is blinking fast – The installed drum unit is at the end of its useful life. You must install a new drum unit as soon as possible, in order to be avoided a non-operational printer's mode/hard stop, and resp. interruptions of your work.

 The [Continue] LED is lit, the [Drum Unit] LED is blinking, and the [Error] LED is blinking – This is an indication of a non-operational printer's mode/hard stop, caused by a completely exhausted drum unit. Please note that all print operations will be disabled in this situation, which means that you won't be able to complete your current task or to print/copy new documents. The only available action is the installation of a new drum unit.

Important: Please be aware that any excessive exposures of the toner cartridge and the new drum unit to direct sunlight or strong artificial lighting will permanently damage these components.

Initially, you must open the front cover of your Dell Black & White 1710 laser printer by pressing the lock release button on the left side and pulling the cover towards you. Then, you must remove the exhausted drum unit along with the attached toner cartridge by pulling the toner cartridge's handle towards you. After that, you must detach the toner cartridge from the exhausted drum unit by pulling the cartridge out, while pressing its lock release lever, and then take the new drum unit out of the transport packaging. Now, you must align the white rollers of the toner cartridge with the marks on the new drum unit, and then insert the cartridge into the new consumable component until it clicks into place. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must align the blue marks on the new drum unit and toner cartridge assembly with the blue arrows stamped on the slot guides, and then insert the new assembly into the printer. Once the new drum unit is installed, you must reset its counter by pressing and holding the [Cancel] button until all LEDs of the printer flash. Finally, you must close the front cover and test your Dell Black & White 1710 laser printer.
