The Gestetner 2712 is a monochrome multifunction printer that provides impressive production value for all its multifunction features such as copy, print, scan and fax. A high volume document producer, the Gestetner 2712 can provide a robust and effective solution for home and business offices looking for value for their document production needs.
The Gestetner 2712 offers up to 27 pages per minute on its print and copy speeds. This output speed is a significant increase from the Gestetner 2212, which is about a 5-page increase. For its resolution, the Gestetner 2712 offers up to 600 x 600 dots per inch while providing support for PCL6 and RPCS modes. Other support includes PCL5e and PostScript Level 3 emulations. The Gestetner 2712 also comes with a standard 32 MB memory that can be expanded up to 64 MB. For its digital storage, the Gestetner 2712 also has a 6 GB hard disk, which is shared between the print and copy functions for a larger and better storage capacity and a smoother project spooling.
For its scanning function, the Gestetner 2712 displays an even more impressive speed compared to its print and copy feature, clocking at a rate of 42 scans per minute, easily making the Gestetner 2712 one of the fastest multifunction machines available in the market. Scanning quality for this particular scan rate is set at 200 x 200 dpi resolution, which can be increased up to a maximum of 600 x 600 dpi that will affect the Gestetner 2712’s scanning speed. Fax function features a 33.6 Kbps modem, with a faster 64 Kbps G4 modem an option for increased speeds in faxing documents. Transmission speeds is as fast as 3 seconds that is complemented by a scan speed as fast as 0.66 seconds. This scan speed again is one of the fastest among multifunction copiers, making the Gestetner 2712 a quite impressive machine considering that it is a mid-end type of multifunction machine. Another impressive feature is the capability to receive duplex fax transmissions, although such is only optional. For its fax memory capacity, the Gestetner 2712 has up to 400 pages, which can even make received faxes converted to duplex outputs.
The Gestetner 2712 comes in with a standard two paper trays with 500 pages for their paper handling capacity. An additional two paper banks with the same paper capacity is an option, which makes the Gestetner 2712 ideal for high volume print production. To complement this, the Gestetner 2712 also has an option for two additional finishers, which includes a large finisher with 1,000 pages for its capacity that comes in with a 50-page stapler and a smaller finisher with 500 pages and 30 pages for its stapling capacity. The Gestetner 2712 is also capable of automatic duplexing as an additional option, with a 100-sheet bypass tray. All in all, the Gestetner 2712 has a maximum sheet capacity of 3,100 pages.
Another impressive feature is its control menu panel display, which is a touch panel for easy navigation through complex tasks and customized jobs. It also has a QWERTY keyboard on its display panel, a feature that most multifunction printers do not have, and this feature is quite useful, especially for operating the Gestetner 2712’s accessories and high priority and high volume tasks.
The Gestetner 2712 biggest caveat is its bulk; while it is a multifunction copier built for high volume document production, its design is quite hefty and hulking that makes the Gestetner 2712 not ideal for a compact office that still needs high volume productivity. Also, with all its impressive features, much of these are only available as an option, which makes the Gestetner 2712 quite an expensive machine considering all its add ons put in place. |
