When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer?

The lifespan of the toner cartridge installed in your HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer depends mainly on the amount of toner that your print jobs require. Please note that your laser printer supports the EconoMode feature. In EconoMode, the printer uses about 50% less toner.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer

In the initial step of the replacement procedure, you must open the front cover of your HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer, and then pull the exhausted toner cartridge out of the compartment. After that, you must take the new toner cartridge out of the protective bag, and then shake the new component several times up and down. Now, you must pull the sealing tape out of the new toner cartridge, and then align the tabs of the cartridge with the guides of the compartment. Finally, you must insert the new toner cartridge firmly into place, and then close the front cover of your HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer.

How to Install a DC Controller in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer

You must start the replacement procedure by switching the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer off. Then, you must unplug the power cord. After that, you must remove the formatter assembly and the back cover. Once the back cover is removed, you must remove the High Voltage Power Supply, and then detach all 18 connectors from the PCA. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the screws that secure the DC controller to the printer base, and then release the retaining clips. Now, you must remove the used DC controller from the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new DC controller by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

How to Install a Fuser Assembly Unit in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer

You must start the replacement procedure by detaching the paper tray from the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer. Then, you must remove the toner cartridge. Once the toner cartridge is removed, you must open the rear door of the laser printer, and then remove the screws that secure the exhausted fuser assembly unit into place. Now, you must pull the two metal tabs of the exhausted fuser assembly unit slightly up, and then pull the exhausted component out of the laser printer. After that, you must unpack the new fuser assembly unit, and then insert it into the printer. Please make sure that the screw holes on the new fuser assembly unit are aligned with the holes on the printer base. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must use the two screws to secure the new fuser assembly unit into place, and then close the rear cover of the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer. Finally, you must reinstall the toner cartridge, and then attach the paper tray to the main unit.

How to Install a High Voltage Power Supply in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must switch the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer off, and then unplug the power cord. After that, you must remove the five screws from the metal back cover, open the top cover, and then remove the screw that is located on the top side of the printer. Now, you must open Tray 1 and the right lower door assembly, and then remove the two screws from the plastic panel that is located to the left of the back cover. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must release the AC socket from the back cover, and then slide the cover 2-3 inches forward. After that, you must release the retaining tabs of the plastic panel, and then detach the back cover along with the panel from the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer. Once the back cover is removed, you must unplug the cable of the DC Controller PCA from the low voltage power supply, and then unplug the connector from the bottom of the high voltage power supply. In the next step, you must remove the four screws securing the high voltage power supply to the printer chassis, and then remove the power supply from the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer. Finally, you must unpack the new high voltage power supply, and then install it by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

How to Install a Laser Scanner Assembly in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer

Please note that you have to remove the control panel and the top cover in order to be able to replace the Laser Scanner Assembly. The two removal procedures and the replacement procedure are listed below.

Control Panel Removal

You must switch the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer off, and then release the front edge tab of the control panel. After that, you must detach the control panel cable from the retainer, and then disconnect the connector. Now, you must remove the control panel from the main unit, and then proceed with the removal of the top cover.

Top Cover Removal

Once the control panel is removed, you must remove the screw that is located inside the control panel slot, and then open the diverter assembly. In the next step, you must remove the screw from the top side of the diverter, and then open the top cover. After that, you must remove the screw that is located next to the right hinge of the top cover, and then release the retaining tabs of the top cover. Now, you must remove the top cover from the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer, and then proceed with the replacement of the Laser Scanner Assembly.

Laser Scanner Assembly Replacement

Caution: Please be aware that the diode of the Laser Scanner Unit is extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharges.

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the toner cartridge from your HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer, and then remove the three connectors from the Laser Scanner Unit. After that, you must remove the four screws that fix the Laser Scanner Unit to the printer frame, and then remove the Laser Scanner Assembly. Finally, you must unpack the new Laser Scanner Assembly, and then install it by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

How to Install a Paper Input Unit in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer

Initially, you must switch the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer off, and then unplug the power cord. After that, you must remove both Tray 2 and Tray 3 from the main unit, and then remove the back cover. Please be aware that leaving Tray 2 and Tray 3 attached to the main unit could lead to damages to the PIU plastic sensor flags. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the front cover from the laser printer, and then open the top cover. Now, you must pull the toner cartridge out of the compartment, and then open the right lower door of the main unit. After that, you must remove the screws securing the Tray 1 assembly, and then pull the assembly towards you until its connector is accessible. In the next step, you must unplug the connector, and then remove the Tray 1 assembly by sliding it slowly towards you. Once you have removed the Tray 1 assembly, you must remove the right lower door assembly, and then remove the four mounting screws of the paper input unit. Now, you must slide the paper input unit towards you until its connector is accessible, and then unplug the connector. Next, you must pull the used paper input unit out of the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new paper input unit by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

How to Install a Transfer Roller in the HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer

Initially, you must open the top cover of your HP LaserJet 5N Laser Printer, and then detach the shaft of the exhausted transfer roller from the blue gear.
