When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the HP LaserJet 8100 Multifunction Printer?
You should frequently check the remaining toner level of the installed toner cartridge by printing a configuration page. Please note that you must navigate to [Information] – [Print Configuration] and then press [Enter], in order to print a configuration page. Please also note that the laser printer uses approx. 50% less toner when the ‘’HP EconoMode’’ is enabled.
Please install a new toner cartridge in your HP LaserJet 8100 Multifunction Printer, if any of the described below messages and issues appears.

• The following error message ‘’INSTALL TONER CARTRIDGE’’ is displayed on the control LCD – This is an indication of a missing or incorrectly installed toner cartridge. You must make sure that the toner cartridge is correctly installed into the laser printer. A new toner cartridge must be installed, if the message is still displayed after the correct reinstallation.

• The following warning message ‘’TONER LOW’’ is displayed on the control LCD – This warning message indicates that the installed toner cartridge is near the end of its useful life, and resp. that the toner level is too low. Please be aware that the remaining toner will be completely consumed after approx. 100 new prints. You should install a new toner cartridge soon after the initial appearance of this warning message on the control display, in order to be avoided print quality issues and a non-operational mode.

• One or several of the listed print quality issues is/are reappearing: light prints, dropouts, lines, gray background, toner smear, or/and repeating defects.

• Blank pages/prints – You must make sure that toner cartridge is installed correctly, and that its sealing tape have been completely removed during the installation. Please install a new toner cartridge, if the problem persists.

The installation of a new toner cartridge in your HP LaserJet 8100 Multifunction Printer is one of the easiest replacement procedures, which requires no more than 5 minutes for complete execution. Please follow the instructions given below.
How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the HP LaserJet 8100 Multifunction Printer
Initially, you must turn off your HP LaserJet 8100 Multifunction Printer, and then unplug its power cable. Please avoid touching the fuser unit and the transfer roller. After that, you must open the top cover, and then remove the exhausted toner cartridge by carefully pulling it out of the slot. Now, you must take the new toner cartridge out of the protective packaging, and then shake it several times from side to side, in order the toner to be redistributed. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the protective sealing tape from the shutter, and then align the toner cartridge with the slot, so the arrow stamped on the cartridge is pointing towards the slot. Finally, you must insert the new toner cartridge firmly into the slot, and then close the top cover of your HP LaserJet 8100 Multifunction Printer.
How to Install a Feeder Assembly in the HP LaserJet 8100
In the initial step of the replacement procedure, you must switch the HP LaserJet 8100 off, and then unplug the power cord. After that, you must open the left door, and then remove the duplexer. Now, you must remove the fuser unit, and then open the top cover. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the toner cartridge from the main unit, and then remove the transfer roller assembly. Once you have removed the transfer roller assembly, you must remove the registration assembly, and then unplug the sensor cable from the feeder assembly. Next, you must remove the three screws that secure the exhausted feeder assembly into place, and then release the four plastic retaining tabs. Finally, you must remove the exhausted feeder assembly, and then install the replacement component by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

You should replace the fuser unit installed in your HP LaserJet 8100 if any of the listed problems persists.

How to Install a Fuser Unit in the HP LaserJet 8100
In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must switch the HP LaserJet 8100 off, unplug the power cord, and then wait at least 10 minutes. After that, you must open the door of the diverter assembly, and then remove the duplexer. Now, you must release the exhausted fuser unit by rotating its upper levers down, and then remove the exhausted component. Finally, you must unpack the new fuser unit, and then install it by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

You should replace the main gear assembly installed in your HP LaserJet 8100 if any of the listed problems persists.

How to Install a Main Gear Assembly in the HP LaserJet 8100
In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the toner cartridge, and then remove Tray 1 and Tray 2. After that, you must remove the transfer roller assembly, and then remove the back cover assembly. Now, you must remove the pickup assembly of Tray 1, and then remove the right lower door assembly. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the paper input unit, and then remove the HVPS. Once the HVPS is removed, you must remove the main motor from the HP LaserJet 8100, and then remove the two screws that secure the exhausted main gear assembly into place. Next, you must remove the exhausted main gear assembly, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new main gear assembly by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

Pros:

Power is what you get with the HP LaserJet 8100. It packs a 166MHz MIPS microprocessor and can print 32 pages-per-minute.

The HP LaserJet 8100 offers enhanced resolution with 600 dots-per-inch. Additionally you get 1200 dpi quality at full speed and over 220 levels of gray.

The HP LaserJet 8100 technology compresses data to use RAM more efficiently. It comes with 8 MB of SDRAM on the formatter and an 8 MB SDRAM DIMM for a total of 16 MB.
With the HP LaserJet 8100, you get outstanding paper handling capacities. The multipurpose tray is perfect for printing transparencies, labels, and envelopes. Tray 2 and 3 automatically detect the size of paper. Plus two optional 500 input trays can be added that automatically sense paper size.


Cons:

The only drawbacks to the HP LaserJet 8100 are its original cost and lack of environmentally friendly features. Other printers offer similar features that cost less. Furthermore this printer uses a lot of energy and could reduce its footprint.
