Product Description
Canon ImageClass D1180 Toner Cartridge - 5,000 Pages

This toner cartridge prints 5000 pages with average 5% coverage (Nearly all Printer manufacturers base their ink/toner cartridge yields on 5% page coverage).

This product comes with a 6 month Warranty against any defects (including free replacement). We stand behind our products 100%, as these are not manufactured by Canon.

Why toner? Why not call it ink? Regular ink dries quickly, which is why cartridges for inkjet printers do not last long. Laser Printers use toner, which is ink in the form of powder. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for 2+ years prior to usage.

Product Manuals
When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Canon imageCLASS D1180?
The yield of the standard toner cartridge installed in your Canon imageCLASS D1180 is approx. 5,000 A4 pages at 5% coverage. Please note that the yield of the toner cartridge (Starter) that comes with the machine is only 2,300 pages at 5% coverage. The actual lifespan of the installed toner cartridge depends mainly on the type of the printed documents, the chosen print density settings, and the average number of printed pages per task. You must replace the installed toner cartridge, if:

‘’SET TONER AGAIN’’ is displayed – You must make sure that the toner cartridge is installed correctly. Please install a new toner cartridge, if the message is still displayed after the correct reinstallation.

‘’TONER LOW/PREPARE NEW TONER’’ – The Canon imageCLASS D1180 has detected a low toner level. You can continue printing by selecting ‘’KEEP PRINTING’’. However, all copy/print operations will be suspended very soon due to a completely exhausted toner cartridge. For that reason, you should install a new toner cartridge immediately after the initial appearance of the warning message on the control display.
How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the Canon imageCLASS D1180
Important: To avoid toner scattering, you must remove the used toner cartridge carefully (without shaking or tilting the used component). Please do not open the protective shutter, which is protecting the photosensitive drum of the new toner cartridge.
In the initial step of the replacement procedure, you must close the multi-purpose tray (if opened), and push the lock release button of the front cover. Then, you must open the front cover of your Canon imageCLASS D1180. After that, you must pull the used toner cartridge carefully out of the machine, and take the new toner cartridge out of the protective packaging. Now, you must rock the new toner cartridge several times from side to side to ensure an optimal toner distribution, and then place the new component on a flat, leveled surface. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the sealing tape by pulling its plastic tab away from the right side of the new toner cartridge, and then align the new component with the rails of the compartment. Finally, you must insert the new toner cartridge firmly into the compartment, and then close the front cover of your Canon imageCLASS D1180.

Canon ImageCLASS D1180 Review

Overview:

Canon’s ImageCLASS D1180 offers everything its sibling the D1170 has. It is a network laser printer, copier, scanner and fax machine.  Designed for the office that uses less than 20,000 prints or copies a month, the multi-function can print in 1200 x 600 dpi resolution at speeds up to 30 single-sided pages per minute, 15 two-sided pages per minute. The difference is the D1180 has industry-standard PCL 5e/6 printer language.

Pros:

The Canon ImageCLASS D1180 weighs in at just under 49 pounds, with a square-ish 17.7” x 18.6” footprint. The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) raises its overall height to almost 18 inches, which may make it too tall to sit on a desk that has a hutch. However, sitting on a table or credenza, it’s the right height for people standing over the unit making copies.

Printing a new job can start as fast as 8 seconds, with print speeds up to 30 ppm.  Printing resolutions for the D1180 range from the optical 600 x 600 to the digitally-enhanced 1200 x 600 dpi. At maximum resolution, the multifunction keeps text fairly sharp--even at 6-point font sizes--and does a decent job with printing graphics in B&W. Canon gives you the option of a USB 2.0 port to connect directly to any PC, or using the 10/100BaseTX Ethernet for networking to several computers.

Understanding the needs of businesses, in addition to the Canon’s proprietary UFR II-LT emulator, Canon also included HP’s PCL 5e/6 print emulators.

The D1180 gives you the option of using its 8½” x 14” glass platen for scanning and copying legal-sized originals, or the duplexing ADF to scan up to 50 two-sided originals. Copies and prints come out below the control panel in a recessed area.

This multi-function has a cassette paper tray, capable of holding up to 500 legal-size sheets up to 32 pound bond weights. Heavier papers up to 51#, envelopes, and transparencies can be inserted through the flip-down 50-sheet multi-purpose tray. A second tray can be added to double the paper the D1180’s capacity.

As a copier, the 50-sheet ADF and the duplex features allow you to save on paper by having creating two-sided copies out of single-sided originals. The ImageCLASS multifunction has different copy exposure modes to handle text to photo reproductions in 256 grayscale levels. The magnification can be automatically or manually changed from 50% to 500% in 1% increments, or in 5 pre-set “jumps”.  Up to 99 single-sided copies can be made at speeds up to 30 pages per minute.

Although a monochrome printer and copier, the D1180 scans in 24-bit color at resolutions up to 9600 x 9600 dpi. Files can be saved in the popular PDF, JPEG, TIFF, and BMP formats.

Using a 33.6Kbps modem (Super G3), the fax function can send up to 20 pages per minute. The control panel can store up to 20 phone numbers for 1-touch speed dialing and store 180 more numbers. Up to 512 incoming and outgoing faxes can be stored in the D1180’s memory. Fax resolutions can be set from the Standard to Photo to Super Fine resolution.

Cons:

Canon does not offer PCL or PostScript emulation with the D1180.  Instead the ImageClass comes with Canon’s UFR II-LT emulator.  Some Mac users running OS X 10.6 have experienced problems with this driver.  The absence of a PostScript driver will only be noticeable by heavy Adobe users.
