LEXMARK OPTRA S1855 TONER CARTRIDGE

The Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer prints up to 7,500 pages with a standard-capacity toner cartridge, and up to 17,600 pages with a premium toner cartridge. In order to get the most from the installed toner cartridge, you can activate the Toner Saver feature.

The Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer is able to determine the status of the installed toner cartridge by using the internal/built-in sensors. The machine will display one of the listed messages if it detects a toner cartridge related abnormality. Please note that some print quality problems also indicate that the installed toner cartridge is not functioning properly.

· [Toner Low] – The installed toner cartridge is nearly empty, which could lead to various print quality problems. Thus, you should install a new toner cartridge soon.

· [Close Door or Insert Cartridge] – The Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer does not detect an installed toner cartridge. You should try to solve the problem by reinstalling the toner cartridge and then closing all printer doors. Please replace the installed toner cartridge if the problem persists.

· [31 Defective Print Cartridge] – The Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer has detected a hardware problem. The installed toner cartridge must be replaced with a new one.

· [32 Unsupported Print Cartridge] – The installed toner cartridge is not designed for use in your Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer. Please replace the installed toner cartridge with a new, compatible one.

· Insufficient toner darkness/density – You must make sure that the correct print quality and paper texture settings are selected. Please replace the installed toner cartridge if print quality does not improve.

· Black streaks appear – The installed toner cartridge is nearing end of life. You should install a new toner cartridge.

Initially, you must unlock the upper front door of the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer by pushing the upper release latch to the right, and then open the upper front door. Next, you must use the handgrip to pull the exhausted toner cartridge out of the main unit, and then remove the replacement toner cartridge from the transport box. After that, you must remove the V-shaped piece, the foam, and the protective paper from the new toner cartridge. Once the new toner cartridge is completely unpacked, you must slide it along the guides of the slot until it snaps into place, and then close the upper front door of your Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer. Finally, you must print 5 pages, wait 10 seconds, and then print 5 more pages in order to maintain the feeding reliability of your laser printer.

You should replace the control panel of your Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer if:

· One or more buttons do not work

· POST fails and the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer sounds 5 beeps

· The LCD of the control panel displays all diamonds

In the initial step of the replacement procedure, you must switch the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer off, and then open the upper front cover. After that, you must detach the upper front cover from the main unit by removing the five mounting screws, and then remove the lens cover from the installed control panel by pressing the three retaining tabs. · [947 Engine Board], [953 NVRAM Failure], or [954 NVRAM Failure] – The installed engine board is defective. Please install a new engine board.

· Excessive gear or main drive assembly noise

· The LCD of the control panel is blank, the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer sounds 5 beeps, and the LED is on – You should replace the control panel, and then test the laser printer. Please replace the engine board if the problem persists.

· The Output Bin Sensor Test fails – You should replace the sensor cable assembly, and then try to start the test. Please replace the engine board if the problem persists.

· Solid black printouts – You should replace the high voltage contacts that are located on the right side frame of the laser printer, and then print a test page. Please replace the installed engine board if the problem persists.

Initially, you must switch the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer off, and then remove the left door by releasing its latches. Next, you must loosen the six mounting screws of the outer EMC shield, and then remove the shield. Once the outer EMC shield is removed, you must remove all option boards from the slots of the connector board, and then detach the inner EMC shield by removing its mounting screw. After that, you must unplug all connectors from the engine board, and then remove the screws securing the engine board to the main frame. Now, you must remove the mounting screw of the engine board cage, and then remove the engine board from the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer. · All printer components are installed correctly but one of the listed tests fails:

Initially, you must remove the left door by releasing its latches, and then loosen the six mounting screws of the outer EMC shield. Next, you must remove the outer EMC shield from the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer. After that, you must remove all option boards from the slots of the connector board, and then detach the inner EMC shield by removing its mounting screws. Now, you must remove the mounting screws from the engine control card assembly, and then remove the two screws from the parallel port. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the engine control card assembly from the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new engine control card assembly by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

You should replace the installed fuser assembly unit if:

· The error code [920], [921], or [922] is displayed – The installed fuser assembly unit does not reach operational temperature. You must make sure that the fuser assembly unit is installed in accordance with the detailed instructions provided further below. Please replace the installed fuser assembly unit if the problem persists.

· The error code [925] is displayed – The fuser lamp is defective or incompatible. Please replace the fuser lamp or the fuser assembly unit.

· The error code [923] or [924] is displayed – The temperature of the installed fuser assembly unit is too high. You should switch the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer off, wait at least ten minutes, and then switch the printer back on. Please replace the installed fuser assembly unit if the problem persists.

· Repetitive image defects occur at intervals of 1.958 inches – This is an indication for a damaged fuser assembly unit. Please replace the installed fuser assembly unit with a new one.

· Residual image – You should replace the toner cartridge, and then test the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer. If print quality does not improve, you should replace the erase lamp assembly. Please replace the installed fuser assembly unit if the print quality problem persists.

· Toner on the unprinted side of the page – The rollers of the installed fuser assembly unit have reached end of life. You should replace the installed fuser assembly unit with a new one.

Caution: Please make sure that the installed fuser assembly unit has cooled before proceeding with the replacement procedure.

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must open the redrive assembly door, and then release its restraint strap. Next, you must remove the redrive assembly door, and then remove the redrive exit cover from the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer. After that, you must remove the two mounting screws from the installed redrive assembly, and then remove the redrive assembly by releasing the two latches. Once the redrive assembly is removed, you must remove the screws securing the exhausted fuser assembly unit to the main frame of the laser printer, and then remove the fuser ground wire. Now, you must pull the exhausted fuser assembly unit out of the laser printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new fuser assembly unit by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

You should replace the inner deflector if it is bowed or not fitting correctly into the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer.

You must start the replacement procedure by removing the multipurpose tray from the two mounting posts. Then, you must release the latch of the upper deflector. After that, you must remove the upper deflector by sliding it to the right, and then remove the four mounting screws from the lower deflector. Now, you must remove the lower deflector from the laser printer, and then place the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer on its side. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must detach the inner deflector from the left and right mounting posts, and then remove it from the main unit. Finally, you must unpack the new inner deflector, and then install it by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

You should replace the installed transfer roller if any of the listed errors and print quality problems persists.

· [917 Transfer Roll] – The Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer has detected a hardware problem in the transfer roller area. You must make sure that the transfer roller is installed correctly, and then test the printer. Please replace the installed transfer roller if the error occurs again.

· Random marks – You should replace the installed toner cartridge, and then print 10 test pages. Please replace the installed transfer roller if print quality remains unsatisfactory.

· Blurred or fuzzy printouts – You should check the technical condition of the installed transfer roller, and replace it if necessary.

· Lines spaced 2.009 inches appears – The installed transfer roller is defective. Please install a new transfer roller.

· Printouts are too light – You should check the installed transfer roller for any signs of contamination or wear, and replace it if such signs are present.

· Lines spaced 0.669 inch apart appear – The surface of the installed transfer roller is damaged. You should replace the installed transfer roller with a new one.

To install a new transfer roller in your Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer, you must open the upper front cover, and then remove the toner cartridge. After that, you must pull the exhausted transfer roller slightly towards you, and then release the shaft of the exhausted component from the left and right pivot arms. Now, you must remove the exhausted transfer roller from the Lexmark Optra S1855 Laser Printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Once the new transfer roller is unpacked, you must insert its shaft into the pivot arms, and then push the new component gently into place. Finally, you must reinstall the toner cartridge, and then close the upper front cover of the laser printer.
