The message on the LCD display will read REPLACE TONER [X] when the TONER EMPTY on the ENGINE/TONER EMPTY menu is set to STOP. If this menu is set to CONTINUE, the message TONER EMPTY [X] will appear. [X] represents the color of toner that requires replacing.

To being replacement, be sure to identify the color of toner that is in need of switching out. Open the front cover of the printer. Find the small button labeled PUSH on the correct toner cartridge to unlock it from the machine, then slide it PART WAY out of the unit. Once it has been pulled far enough out to access the handle, life the handle and take the weight of the unit by it. It is then safe to pull the cartridge all the way out of the unit.

Be sure that the new toner cartridge is the correct color for replacement, then open the cartridge. Grip the toner cartridge from both sides and shake it up and down to loosen up the toner inside. If the toner is not distributed in this way, the life of the cartridge may be compromised. The drum cover on the cartridge must be lifted to the right, relative to the machine.

The drum cover must also be removed from the toner cartridge by sliding it towards the machine. Hold the cartridge by its handle, support its weight, and slide it into the machine into the correct color slot. Lower the handle on the cartridge when it is partway inserted, and then slide it into place. Once it is snapped into position, pull the protective film off the cartridge by pulling it straight out. Close the front cover to the machine. You will know that the cartridge is properly inserted because the door will close properly. A 75 second calibration cycle will follow the installation and when finished a READY message will appear.
