Overview:

The OkiData C7350hdn is a color laser printer with a large feature set, including an internal hard drive, duplex printing, and built-in network support in its standard configuration. Despite these features, many users will likely want to consider several newer desktop color lasers before this one, as it shows its age in a number of ways. OkiData's newer printers in this same series are considerably faster and somewhat smaller, as well as supported out of the box by newer operating systems.

Pros:

The C7350hdn measures 16.9" by 24.4" by 16.9" and weighs 105 lbs, consistent with most desktop color laser printers in terms of footprint and considerably heavier than many models newer than this one. This printer will fit comfortably on a desktop or tabletop alongside other equipment, but it can also be stored on a dedicated cabinet or credenza, likely worth considering if you plan to expand the printer's paper capacity.

The C7350hdn produces documents at maximum speeds of 24 pages per minute in color and 26 pages per minute in black and white, with a time to first page of 9 seconds in color and 8 seconds in black and white. Like most laser printers, it produces documents at a maximum resolution of 1200 by 600 dpi. For the most part, this is the highest resolution one can print from a color laser printer, and if you need better quality prints, you will need to consider a high-end inkjet.

The printer ships with a paper capacity of 630 sheets split between a 530-sheet standard tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray, with optional paper expansion available by installing two more 530-sheet paper trays, bringing its total capacity up to 1690 sheets, well over three reams of paper and far more than most offices go through on a daily basis. The multi-purpose tray supports printing to documents as large as 8.5" by 47.24" and can process overhead transparencies nad mailing label stock in addition to normal paper. A duplexer unit is included standard in the unit.

For best possible print quality, the printer includes a variety of color management tools and calibration options, such as Auto Color Matching, PostSCript CRD, Windows ICM, and ICC profile support. Ink simulations and color matching are also included.

The C7350hdn interfaces with computers via IEEE-1284 parallel, USB 2.0, or a built-in OkiLAN 8100e internal ethernet print server for easy networking, with support for TCP/IP, IPX, AppleTalk, NetBEUI, FTP, Telnet, SMTP/POP3, HTTP, and NDS, among other network protocols to ensure connectivity. The printer also ships standard with a 20 GB hard drive for document and file storage. Job accounting and the OkiLAN Print Supervision system are both included to control color usage and individual user printing.

In order to ensure compatibility with a variety of environments, the printer supports emulation in the PCL 5c and Adobe PostScript 3 languages, as well as Direct PDF printing. It supports 136 scalable PS3 fonts and 80 PCL, as well as line printer, OCR-A, OCR-B, and USPS Zip bitmap font printing. Supported operating systems include Windows, Mac OS 8.6 and Mac OS X, Solaris, and Linux. 

Cons:

Though the printer's time to first page is a considerable improvement over its predecessors, many models with similar monthly duty cycles (the C7350hdn is rated to produce 100000 pages per month) offer speeds about ten sheets per minute faster than this printer, with 30-40 pages per minute available in black and color.

Newer models than the C7350hdn offer a variety of network security options unavailable on this printer. If you want SSL/TLS support for your network environment and greater control over printer authorization, as well as protection against attacks, you'll likely want to consider one of this printer's successors.
